About the Author

Shelly Alexander is the author of It’s In His Heart and It’s In His Touch, part of the Red River Valley series. A 2014 Golden Heart finalist, she grew up traveling the world, earned a bachelor’s degree in marketing, and worked in the business world for twenty-five years. With four older brothers, she watched every Star Trek episode ever made, joined the softball team instead of ballet class, and played with G.I. Joes while the Barbie Corvette stayed tucked in her closet. When she had three sons of her own, she decided to escape her male-dominated world by reading romance novels and has been hooked ever since. Now, she spends her days writing steamy contemporary romances while tending to an obstinate English bulldog named Lola.

I have given It's In His Eyes 5 feel good stars.

Now I am terrible at judging a book by it's cover and I am ashamed to say that this has been sat on my kindle for a while now because I couldn't bring myself to read it. The cover just doesn't appeal to me at all and after reading the book, I can now say it does not reflect the book or do it any justice at all.

Once I started reading it, to say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. I was hooked by the end of the first chapter. Shelly Alexander has an amazing writing style that captivates the reader attention throughout this feel good romance.

Normally I don't like the kind of books that leave you dewy eyed and warm and fuzzy inside but there was just something about this book that seemed to appeal to the hidden romantic inside of me. Sometimes we all just something a little bit charming and lovely to make us feel good.
As I am new to this author, I wasn't quite sure what to expect but like I have previously mentioned her style of writing is truly captivating. It was filled with love, romance, sweet and tenderness and a little bit of drama to keep the sweet from being too much.

This may be my first book by this author but it certainly won't be my last.

This is the first book I have ventured into by Shelly Alexander so I wasn't sure what to expect from it.

Miranda hates asking for help and tries to do everything by herself no matter what it is. She doesn't want to be like her mother and rely on men to help her through life. I found Miranda hard work at times, I didn't really connect with her character if I'm being honest!

Talmadge was hard to like in the beginning but he definitely won me over in the end.

This book was an ok read, I have to say I lost interest a few times and found a few places were a bit slow but overall it kept me entertained. I have to admit though the name Talmadge was very strange to me.

It’s In His Smile by Shelly Alexander

This book starts off with a wonderful character called Miranda who lives in Red River. She’s coming to terms with the loss of her friend Bea and we first meet her when she’s arranging the wake.
Enter Talmadge. He and Miranda have met before, a one night stand and Miranda’s first sexual encounter seven years ago has left Talmadge in the forefront of her mind since then.
The hot grandson of Bea who is just in town to say goodbye to his grandmother, but circumstances keep him hanging around for longer than he intends. He’s a green architect, providing sustainable buildings that are kind to the environment. He’s in the middle of a huge deal back in Seattle, but the loveable Miranda has that pull that he just can’t ignore.
Bea left Miranda the old and decrepit inn, and she’s struggling to spruce the place up on her waitress salary, so the kind and wonderful Talmadge steps in to lend a hand. Miranda is keen to make a name for herself, she wants to be successful in running the inn and standing on her own two feet.
There is a sticky moment involving Talmadge and the conditions of Bea’s will, there are great secondary characters, especially Francine, Clydelle and the ‘Mommy Mafia’ and not to mention that the writing of this fantastic novel is flawless.
I’m so glad I said yes to this gem of a story.

Favourite quotes:

“Jamie stared at Talmadge, the admiration in her little brother’s eyes about as subtle as a s neon sign in the middle of a power blackout.”

“Francine lifted her purse. “Watch it, sister. This purse is a lethal weapon, and I’m not responsible for my actions when my blood sugar drops.

** Review provided by Kylie at Bloggers From Down Under **

Miranda has never needed a man in her life. She has watched her own mother go through relationship after relationship, all ending in the same result, the man always leaving after a short while. It’s the exact reason Miranda has only ever been with one man, who after their one night together couldn’t leave town quick enough. Talmadge Oaks, the only man Miranda has ever been with and loved, has been gone for seven years.

But that’s about to change.

Talmadge is back in town on family business, and the sooner he can get out of Red River, and back to salvage his crumbling business in Seattle, the better.

But the universe and all her magical wisdoms, have other plans for Miranda and Talmadge, with a little help from a recently deceased friend and relative, and the older townsfolk of Red River, this story will have even the most cynical believing in second chances.

Written as a series, this story is also the perfect stand alone, and such a warm and beautiful read. If you like a touch of humour, hunky men with their shirts off and happy ever afters, then we highly recommend this book.
