Bought this book on the off chance and glad I did. We've just started a renovation and I fancied some home cinema and some other tech. I was a little unsure as to what type of wires I'd need, and various cabling etc. Now I'm sorted! We've even opted for some speakers for the patio.
I think this book has just helped to hide most of the cables that otherwise would have been running on the floor and up to the TV, not to mention letting me bury a few extra for expansion. Now I know exactly what to ask for when am speaking with the electrician.
I bought this book hoping to learn more about smart home technologies and what they call structured wiring. I've now got a much clearer understanding of what I need to put in our house. Really enjoyed the list of projects and ideas. Most I've never even thought of, yet I can see how useful they'd be, and probably not that difficult to put into place. The key thing underlining everything is the need to think of ahead and get as much cabling/trunking in as possible before plastering/finishing. Would recommend.
At last someone has written a very helpful book about Smart Homes that strikes a fine balance between elements where you need the novice info and elements which don't treat you like a complete idiot. This was useful on many levels, in particular with advice in bringing our house renovation into the 21st century with technology. Highly recommended.
this book is really easy to use with simple instructions. If you building a new home or just going upgrade your old one this book will help you. With cost Effective ways. I recommend this book to anyone as it is full of ideas.
This book was recommended to me by someone very knowledgeable on home improvements, who'd tired of me constantly picking his brains for ideas on upgrading my home. The Smarthome Book is a relatively quick (and often humorous) read, written in layman terms for those who prefer simplicity, offering smart solutions to save time and money in the long run when it comes to power supply,, wiring, security etc - stuff I had no idea about!!.
Chapter 17 was brilliant as it offered a plethora of innovative ideas I'd never even heard of that are easy to incorporate and loved the glossary. So THAT's that IOT means! :). I'll be buying a few copies as stocking fillers this year.
We are currently building our dream home. Neither my husband nor I are very tech savvy but we wanted to ensure our home was as smart on the inside as it looked on the outside. We've been looking for ideas of how to integrate some of the latest technology and future proof our home making it as efficient as possible. This book was perfect. It gave us some really creative ideas and explained it in a way that even I could understand.
A nerdy friend put me onto this. I’m building into my loft, and he said I should future proof it. This book is apparently the go to reference thing for electricians/builders to give to customers as a way of convincing them to spend the extra £200 on their £30k refurb.
It’s full of useful stuff and tips you’d easily forget about until it was too late.
If you’re having building work done £2.50 spent today will save you thousands tomorrow.
I am currently building a new house and have found this book to be extremely useful. It’s easy to follow steps will hopefully ensure my house is future proof and any further upgrades will be much easier and lot cheaper. There are handy tips for every room of the house and even the garden. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to upgrade their home or like me is building one from scratch.
