I was sent this product for review by Smart Weigh.

In the box you get the scales with 2 AAA batteries fitted (with a removable tab to activate them), a handy pouch and instruction book.

In terms of size these scales are about the size of a small smartphone and the scales are nicely finished in a rubberised plastic with an aluminium look trim around the middle and glass look weighing platform. One slight difference from the photograph on this page is that the weighing platform is coloured diagonally in black and grey - I suspect this is so that both light and dark coloured materials being weighed will be equally visible - I have uploaded a photo to illustrate this.

Despite their pocket size these scales are fully featured and include the following functions -

- 500g maximum capacity and can weigh in the following units - g, oz, ozt, dwt, ct & gn.
- A tare weighing function - if you are going to use a container on the scales they can subtract the weight of the empty container.
- A counting function - if you are selling a product in, say, 2g units the scales can be set to show you the "count" of products on the weighing platter rather than the weight although you can toggle back to weight easily using the mode key.

Although set at the factory, the scales also have a calibration function to set true zero. I calibrated the scales and then tested the accuracy using a 10g precision weight and the scales passed with flying colours easily meeting their claimed accuracy of 0.1g.

The LCD display is backlit in blue, easily readable and has four on screen touch controls for on/off, mode, tare weighing and clearing the device.

To be honest, I don't need a set of scales with this level of accuracy. I bought these for the kitchen, as my big old fashioned grocer's balance scales are simply not capable of accurately measuring out things in the 3 to 7g range that I need when baking. These are the typical amounts of dried yeast or salt I use when making bread. I have another much larger set of electronic scales which are supposed to be accurate to the nearest gram, but in reality they are just not up to the job and my giant balance scales are more accurate.

The nice thing about this little "pocket" scale is that it is just so small. I don't need it everyday, so it just gets slipped into its pouch and put into a drawer and takes up no unnecessary room in my already overfilled kitchen

I work in a laboratory where we require accurate scales and balances for our work, down to very small weights, so you can imagine how pessimistic I was about how accurate this item would be for just £11.
I needed it for weighing out small amounts of herbs and seasoning for cooking so, if it was satisfactory, it would be just right for the job.
As soon as it arrived I checked it against a highly accurate "old fashioned" pan balance at several weights across the range: Absolutely spot on for weights from 0.5 gm to 50gm.
So, absolutely thrilled with it, although I still can't understand how they produce such accurate equipment for the price.

This is really easy to use and is ideal for those things that are really light and so difficult to register on other scales. I used them to balance the blades on my model helicopters down to decimal points. Really cheap for what it does.

I'm impressed with the TS500 scale, though I've only had it for a week. I've weighed various items for my own curiosity, and the readings are consistent (same reading, to 0.1g accuracy) between weighings. I don't have another scale to compare against. The scale itself is about the size of a smartphone, comes in a cover.

Very pleased with this. As a bit of a geek, I "calibrated" it, using a jar-full of pennies and 2p pieces I had, and it was very good across the whole range of weights (average error 0.15g, max error 0.4g). I use it to weigh my ink cartridge to check when it needs refilling. I was amazed that it can actually register the weight of a single piece of tissue paper (0.6g) that I put underneath the cartridge. I would recommend it to anyone. No problems with delivery.

I like the size and build of the unit, a little fiddly switching on and off due to the location of the buttons, my only criticism is the weighing area could be slightly more raised for weighing longish items it is rather flush to the rest of the body of the unit, but pretty accurate.

This is a precision scale that you can use to weigh smaller things like food (saffron spice for example), gems, coins, mails, etc. with a 500 g capacity (1/2 kgms). It is the same size of a calculator.

It runs on 2 regular AAA batteries which are included. All you have to do is remove the clear plastic strip that separates the battery contacts and the scale is ready for operation. The LCD panel is touchscreen with 4 virtual buttons on the right side which includes the on and off button. It also has tare so you can zero out the reading if you need to use a container for your samples.

Sometimes the only question is whether you need a stamp or two stamps, this scale will tell you and remove any doubts. This is also great to use for school projects and experiments, not only because it is accurate but also quite inexpensive.

Pros:
- very precise - down to 0.1 g
- LCD panel is lit
- runs on common AAA batteries
- portability - includes a soft leatherette pouch

Cons:
- the 4 buttons are very small and very hard to press even with the tip of your small finger

A sample of this product was sent to me for review purposes.
