Apart from the Smallrig bag that these two 1/4" to 1/4" come in, the screws are not branded in any way. The sales images are misleading as they note SmallRig branding on the adapters, however they are not there. They are clearly just reselling generic ones from China.
I have tried the adapters with lots of different equipment and I have yet to find a setup that they work with.
The screws tighten on well. In fact, too well. Once they are attached you will be unable to remove them unless you use pliers. In some situations this is exactly what you want as you want to be sure nothing comes lose, however you are going to be disappointed if you want to use this in a setup where you need to quickly take things on and off.
I can live with the screws being too tight, but I cannot accept the tripod thread being too long.
There is a risk of damaging your camera if you screw this directly into your camera's tripod thread.
I was hoping to use this in order to connect two 1/4" female tripod threads. For example, this week I was planning on building a smartphone vlogging setup in which a microphone sits on top of the smartphone holder.
Unfortunately, because the tripod thread is too long, nothing ever fits correctly. When everything is screwed in things sits at a really bad angle. For the smartphone setup I have tried using this to connect a tripod ballhead. It works (kind of), but it makes the whole setup much bigger than it needs to be. It kind of defeats the point using an adapter like this if I am going to have to other another attachment in order to get things to work.
It makes these adapters useless as microphones and other attachments are always going to set at the wrong angle. Why aren't they designed with a standard tripod thread length?
If you need to connect two pieces of equipment and don't care what angle they attach at, then you will find these useful. However, if you are hoping to position a camera or microphone at the right angle, you will be frustrated by these adapters. Due to this, I cannot recommend these adapters from SmallRig.
As with all Smallrig gear, they are very well made. In fact I could have brought more for less, but on closer inspection, the Smallrig screws had a chamfer on the knurled section, as every good engineer will know, this is a good thing so, I purchased these.
I have subsequently ordered two more of these screw adaptor sets from Amazon ... and this time, the delivery was extra fast. I have received the package some 12 hours after the order.
