The best thing about this book is the case studies. Unlike some books about 'small spaces', this one includes examples which would be useful for somebody with an ordinary 30-50 sq.metre apartment. The text is well written and comprehensive, although a little light on specifics. The chapter on Circulation is particularly thought-provoking. Each case study includes a rough plan, and each is intelligently photographed from multiple points of view to show not only the overall ambience of a space but also key design features.
If you're looking to improve your space, you'll come away from this with loads of ideas, and at least some idea of how to put them into practice.

This book is full of great ideas. We all live in small spaces in the UK and making best use of this space without it looking cluttered is key to comfortable living. We used this book specifically, to help spark some ideas for our small bathroom refit. I was so impressed I went out and bought a couple of other Conran design books.

I found this book to be incredibly insightful, giving examples of small spaces that were not just realistic but practical too. Projects such as small scale apartments and conversions/extensions to existing dwellings are expertly presented by Conran. The theories behind a mezzanine level, or subdividing spaces through small changes in level (for example) are clearly defined, and could form a valuable basis for a similar project of your own.

The book is split into chapters which look at topics such as 'light and air' and 'organisation', which enables the reader to find specific features easily. Each section is then followed by a couple of relevant case studies, complete with sketch plans, numerous photos and excellent descriptions. I especially enjoyed the New York, Paris and Italian Stable studies, all of which (along with the others) show precisely the features we need to see.

This is an excellent book, vital as inspiration or purely for day-dreaming.
