Product description

Review

There is a fire raging, and we have two choices: we can turn our backs, or we can try to fight it ((from the author's afterword))

The most important novel Jodi Picoult has ever written (Washington Post)

A thought-provoking and unputdownable novel about race and prejudice that shows Picoult at her very best. (Woman & Home)

No book could be more timely in its message than Small Great Things . . . The story prodded me to take a good, hard look at my own biases and preconceptions (Metro)

The book makes for a harrowing and at times heartbreaking read but is absolutely brilliant. It deserves to be read by everyone (***** Sun)

The narrative rips along at a great pace, she writes dialogue like a pro, and her suspenseful control of the courtroom scenes is masterfully done. (Independent)

[Picoult] offers a thought-provoking examination of racism in America today, both overt and subtle. Her many readers will find much to discuss in the pages of this topical, moving book. (Booklist, starred review)

Review

Small Great Things is the most important novel Jodi Picoult has ever written. Frank, uncomfortably introspective and right on the day’s headlines, it will challenge her readers ...The difficult self awareness is what sustains this book ... forcing engaged readers to meditate on their own beliefs and actions along with these characters ... It's also exciting to have a high-profile writer like Picoult take an earnest risk to expand our cultural conversation about race and prejudice. (The Washington Post)

Fantastisc written book that encouraged me to do a lot of soul searching. It brought up things that I had completely wrong in my desire to be a non racial person. A book I surely will remember and also pass along.

I found the 3 central characters believable, crafted in a 3 dimensional way - warts and all. The story is pacy enough to keep you page turning but doesn't reply on needless thrills. I felt hopeful and humbled at the same time.

A thoughtful and sensitive study about race and racism, Small Great Things provides a cracking read. Though not a short book, it is such a page turner that it was a quick read, with the final page coming all too soon.

I thoroughly enjoyed this - the characters were realistic and believable, the plot was gripping plot and had interesting twists and turns and the portrayal of American society was fascinating and shocking. This book also made me think a lot about my own attitudes to race. I would highly recommend it.

What a thought provoking book! I thoroughly enjoyed this book although it makes for disturbing reading. Well done to Jodi Picoult for having the courage to write it.

Another fantastic book by jodi picoult. An interesting read..It certainly made me think about racism and what it is like to be accused of a horrible crime because of your colour
