Of all the many garden design books that I have read over the years this has got to the best! The photos of the garden designs are superb quality and are truly inspirational. Brookes gives a simple but clear and convincing explanation as to why some designs are more appropriate than others. Obviously a healthy bank balance is required to fulfil many of these designs but they inspire ideas that can be implemented on smaller budgets. At the back of the book Brooke's gives an interesting planting guide.

Very Good book - well worth getting. Lots of good photos and ideas. Have already started planning my courtyard garden using this book . One small thing - its got some lovely examples from the southern hemisphere so can be easy to get carried away and then realise it cant be done with English Weather and soil conditions! Since the garden design will take years I'll be constantly referencing this book for a long while to come.

Not sure what the year my 1p edition was published, but certainly last century(!). Some of the gardens designs would now be seen as a bit dated (conifers etc.) and there's no ultra-modern minimalist planting. However, if you're looking for ideas and planting schemes for an everyday garden rather than a 'show winner', this book stills has a lot to offer. There's many pictures of different garden designs so you can go through and decide what makes sense for you and then consult the planting schemes to ensure year round interest.

A useful book but showing its advanced age now, photos fuzzy and odd colours, rather dated designs, but still has valuable info.

This is the second time I have bought this book as I gave my first copy away to a friend I was so impressed. I think if you have a limited space it is packed with images that might inspire you to try new ideas or create your own piece of paradise in your own space.
