Product Description

Product Description

Franklin Franklin (Lucas) plays the alphorn and dreams of Switzerland. His crazy brother sends him fingernail clippings in the mail. One of his neighbours is a forgetful pot-head, the other a gruff busy-body who doesn't miss anything. Across the street live a mother and her 15-year-old daughter, whom he likes to watch from his window, but none of these are Franklin's real problem. The real problem is his landlord; lying dead on the kitchen floor. Switzerland seems further and further away.

Special Features:

  •  Two featurettes: “How to Build A Gravity Bong” featuring actor Johnny Knoxville crafting the ideal smoking device; and “Small Apartments: Behind The Scenes” which gives an inside look into the production of the film, including snippets from the cast and crew on working with Jonas Åkerlund.

A bit of a weird film about a collection of misfits - a pants wearing perv , a drug addict , and a nosey parker - living in adjacent apartments in an apartment block in The USA. If you persevere with the film you'll gradually realise that this is a film about being accepted for what you are not what you do or earn. As long as you're not evil or unkind everyone is entitled to our acceptance and should be allowed to live as they want - as long as you're happy that's all that matters. This film is a bit of an enigma - it seems ridiculous but it's actually quite profound.

Definitely not a vanilla blockbuster, this movie has immense character, great acting and a cohesive, gritty story line. It shifts between funny (although never "laugh out loud" stuff), sad and plain bizarre, without never falling into bad taste. The photography and direction is also great, managing to relate a non-linear story line beautifully.

And it is because of all this that I think it could be easily misunderstood, it is however, in my opinion, a great watch.

I suspect that Gary P was expecting something akin to Little Britain.

A "hilarious throughout" film this is not... you need to go into it with an open mind!

It is certainly odd and Matt Lucas spends the best part of the film in some rather unattractive under pants but it is a beautifully portrayed reflection of different people with different backgrounds and circumstances, coping with various levels of separation from loved ones, loneliness and wanting to better themselves in different ways.

There are some laugh out loud moments but the humour is fairly subtle and offset by some more upsetting scenes.

Matt Lucas is great and Jonny Knoxville turns out to be a bit of an "unsung" hero.

There are lots of glossy comedies out there and the same old, run of the mill gags. I would recommend it for anyone tired of the standard template looking for something with a bit of everything... including a fairly humanitarian message!

Personally I give it five stars!

I am sorry (not sorry) but this film is pretty bad. I wish Jonas Åkerlund would stick to the music videos! "Small Apartments" is a pretty weird glimpse at a life of slightly crazy and vaguely obese albino who lives in a sunny LA and dreams of travelling to Switzerland (?!) – what the hell? Matt Lucas was painful to watch, seriously. An extra star to sub-stories of lives of all the neighbours in the said small apartments. Black comedy? Perhaps. But not the one I would recommend or watch again. My oh my.

Enjoyable film with Matt Lucas perfectly cast as a horn blowing, pant wearing, pervy loon, who dreams of a better life in the Swiss Alps.

With a great supporting cast including Johnny Knoxville, James Caan, Billy Crystal & Dolph Lundgren (hilarious!).

Definitely one to watch.

well you have to be off your head to watch this, swear that films are just being added to my list of films, as I do not like comedy's. plus I would like to ask why can't I just be able to just give it stars like I could on love film and not having to write a load of rubbish as I am doing now lol

Only watched it coz it's online instant, feels like stupid & light hearted comedy to begin with but ends with a surprisingly philosophical message about life so it has a tiny feel good factor feeling if you're looking for that dose from an instant to watch film, not sure I would specifically rent it though.

Surprisingly sweet, funny and dark film. Great cast and performances all round but stand out characters portrayed by Matt Lucas and Johnny Knoxville.
