This series is ongoing & will reel u in making u anticipate the next release!!
The synopsis for this book is good so there's no point giving my usual summary I'll just let you know how I feel about it.
This is a very tame MC read and while I normally prefer mine a little gritty this worked for me, it's ultimately a romance and while there's the initial 'insta' attraction it's not rushed, we're allowed time to get to know the characters and get a feel for them and their personalities.
Both Rock and Hope are interesting, intelligent and likeable, there's no TSTL moments or silly misunderstandings that lead on to yet more misunderstandings, you know what I mean.
Rock is thoughtful and kind, he's not afraid to show how he feels and I loved that he treats women with respect, all women, he's old enough to be comfortable in his own skin and he is.
This book held me from the first page to the last although the ending was a bit of a non-ending this is the first book in this series and their story continues on in 'Corrupting Cinderella' which I'm starting as soon as I've finished this review.
So on the whole I loved this book but then I love romance and this is in my opinion a very good romance.
It also has some very strong secondary characters which should make the future books interesting, looks like this could be a very good series.
Why 4 stars and not 5....it's told in the first person plus Rock and Hope and while I love dual POVs it wasn't always clear who's POV we were getting it would have worked so much better, for me anyway just to have had the name at the side.
Hope's marriage is an obstacle in the beginning, however it does not play any significant part in the overall storyline. The story could just as easily have been told with that whole part missing. This was the first thing that bothered me.
The story is told from both Hope and Rock's POV. I like dual POV storyline. However, if it is not clear which character is narrating, things can become confusing. This was another thing that annoyed me.
The final, and by far the most irritating thing I found when reading this was the timeline. When huge chunks of time have elapsed between chapters, I think it is always better to indicate this, to avoid confusion.
Unfortunately, despite knowing that there are further books with more of Hope and Rock's story, I don't find myself caring enough to read any more of their story just now.
I hate not enjoying a book. But just because this book didn't pull me into its grip, does not mean everyone will have the same view.
I have read quite a few MC series so I'm always a bit dubious when I start a new one - MC's can be a bit marmite...you either love 'em or hate 'em - personally, I like them! Sexy biker bad boys who fall head over heels for us 'normal' women instead of glammed up seductive can-walk-on-6-inch-stilletos-without-falling-over women, how could you not!!
Anyways, back to Slow Burn.....
Rock & Hope's story:
Rock is the President of the Lost Kings MC, Hope is a sweet and innocent attorney. She takes more to do with family courts instead of criminal activities so she is still innocent to the big bad world. They have a connection but thankfully it's not an insta-love story where they drop everything and run off together! Yes, there is insta-attraction, but they're both good people, she's married and would never cheat and he respects that (see - biker bad boy with morals!!)
They eventually come together again and they get their HFN ending which I'm so glad off... They deserve some happiness!
Can't help but love the characters and can't wait to read each of their stories 😀
This book concentrates more on the romance side of things which was the authors aim (tells us so at the end of the book!) and she had written it perfectly! Yes you still have the dangerous side to things, just without the gory details! It was perfect 👌
Can't wait to read the next one!!
