It’s been sitting on my Kindle since I purchased it, last June. The blurb totally intrigued me at the time but since I battle daily with a unwieldy TBR, a post on social media finally prompted me to read this novel.
And, let me tell you, it had me completely hooked and wishing I’d read it sooner.
R and Sloth are pen-pals, exchanging handwritten letters, via an intermediary organisation, until the letters stop being forwarded on to the other and they lose touch.
Cleo Whatley is at college. She’s a sorority member and has a little business that keeps her afloat and thriving, and more than supplements her scholarship. However, one day, she comes face to face with college golden boy, Kellan Walsh, who wants to shut her business down. Their meeting changes everything for Cleo – her life ends up in total upheaval, full of questions, doubt, and sexual awakening.
I thoroughly enjoyed the unravelling of the whole story.
The letters intrigued me. You find out pretty soon how R, Sloth, Cleo and Kellan are connected. Kellan is gorgeous, mysterious, leads a double life, and has some deep, dark secrets. This book really messes with your mind and thoughts about what you think is true. There’s plenty of sex and intensity because Cleo and Kellan can’t keep their hands off each other. Then when you get to the crux of the story, be prepared! I booed my eyes out! It was painful and heartbreaking, but through it all, there’s an affirmation of life and love. An absolute must-read!
I can't say too much without giving the secret away but I found myself crying real tears.
So why did I not give it 5/5? The sex scenes were great. Very steamy. Especially in the first half of the book. But then I got bored of how often they happened. Even at times when you think it'd be the last thing on their minds. So, for that reason, and the errors that weren't picked up in editing, I give it a 4.
Also loved the authors note at the end of the book. A must read.
There's a saying that the first lines in a book will be the ones to grab you in and keep you there till your finished and Ella James has done an outstanding job of keeping me sucked in till the very end.
Many people find it easier to write there feelings down on paper and this is how we see the story unfold.
I went through allot of emotions reading Sloth. I was curious, frustrated at times, curious, happy, mad, curious again, shocked, sad, I cried...which I don't do allot. I cried so hard that I struggled to see the writing in front of me the epilogue made it worse then BOOM!!!.... Happy tears!!
*WARNING- I'm left with a book hangover*
