Craig David - Slicker Than Your Average - Cd
Slicker Than Your Average is the second album by Craig David who took the world by storm with his boastful debut, Born to Do It. More than two years later, David has slogged through the minefields of sudden stardom and lived to sing about it, which he does with stylish aplomb. He has sacrificed some of his milk-fed innocence, but none of his braggadocio, as the title attests. His sound is harder, more anxious, and much more suitable for clubs than the soft, breezy nu-soul of his first outing. This time he's dealing with darker stuff, whether it's the press's relentless scrutiny of him or warning of the dangerous pitfalls of fame ("I'm not the man I used to be"). He's not the man he used to be, for fame seems to have shaken the scales from his eyes. This one-time wide-eyed romantic no longer pines for his perfect love, instead casting a rather jaundiced eye at the women vying for attention on "What's Your Flava." But his newfound complexity and edge makes for a much more interesting album than his debut. It's a relief to watch Craig David trading in his clean-cut pop styling for a much more urban edge, rife with old school R&B and hip-hop style. --Jaan UhelszkiSee all Product Description

I think not.
After the success of "Born To Do It" the question was could he make another great album.
And I think he does a fine job in answering that question.
I think when listening to this album you need to have an open mind. You can't keep comparing it to "Born To Do It" because this album is different.
And a good artist has the abilty to change his style slightly. Otherwise things would get boring.

I'm really only emphasised what Craid David says in this opening track. Yes he isn't from the streets but hes worked damn hard to get here. And this track really plays on his feelings and for the first time we get an indication on what he really thinks.
Its a great track though and a fitting one to start the album.
Whats Your Flava
The first single to be released and a track most people know. Its got a very different sound to any of the songs that were released from the first album. Its catchy and most of you will know the words to the chorus!
Bit of a garage flava in this one, and it has one hell of a beat. Different sound to the rest of the album but still very good
The second single from the album and its one hell of a track. One of the best on the album, and its a real Craig David track.Read more ›
It really is one of them most diverse urban music albums of the past five years. As he collaborates with Sting on 'Rise and Fall' he shows his more serious side as he deals with constantly being in the limelight, yet he still shows that he has a party side to him with songs like 'Hands Up In The Air' and '2 Steps'.
His diversity is proved not just lyrically, but musically as the song 'Spanish' shows it beautifully through the Spanish guitar and all round continental feel of the song. Yet his UK roots are in no way forgotten as shown in the song 'A World Filled With Love' that musically brings a Beatles feel to it to create a unique sound with his soulful voice. Although he has kept the great blend that his debut album had of U.K garage and RnB, 'Slicker Than Your Average' is overall musically and lyrically a lot better and has less of a cheesy feel to it.
Yet it still is very listenable and catchy and has you wanting to go back and listen to it. The album definitely shows he has established him self as an artist with consistency who will be around for many more albums to come.

Having the words in the sleeve is also a good idea so it is possible to appreciate the cleverness and skill behind his song writing. I would say the only bad thing about Craig David toady is that he has released songs that do not give him credit, and if he released any of the other songs on his album he might get better credit than he has been from the press!
My advice, GO AND BUY IT!!!
