BEARDFISH Sleeping In Traffic: Part Two CD

No, this is a new Scandinavian band producing their own new (branded by ProgArchives) 'eclectic prog', whatever that definition precisely means. To my ears, this just means quality music, and judging by the top rating for 2008 by ProgArchives, a lot of prog listeners agree with me.
Not a perfect release by any means but certainly one of 2008's best and most interesting. The rest of the album does not quite live up to the undoubted highlights, the opening segue of songs 'Into the Night' and 'The Hunter' and the centrepiece title track, measuring a whopping 36 minutes and counting. That's real prog! In fact 'SWT part 2' is arguably the best progressive track of the year, I've certainly heard nothing better, and is worth the price of the album alone.
Well done guys.
The main difference with this album is that all the chord changes, tempo shifts, dazzling solos, hang together and make sense, Past works, while technically very impressive (and I still like them a lot) are a little more random and less expressive.
It's an album that requires repeated listenings; you can miss a lot the first few times and can only appreciate over time. But there's enough immediacy to make the repeat visits a pleasure. Highly recommended.
Sleeping in Traffic: Part Two is a highly polished, fully accomplished, well produced album of Genesis/Yes style prog rock. All the tracks are really good once you penetrate them and I would recommend this album to anyone wanting to enjoy a rigorous prog rock workout with shades of dark humor.
I look forward to catching up on their earlier albums.
As the sun sets is little more than an intro but it uses some interesting keyboard sounds and into the night Opens with yet more keyboard but it sounds a little bit more classic which is not a good or bad thing but It add the melodic part that felt missing from The Void so they probably should have kept the Keyboards kudos for trying new things ANYWAY this is about Sleeping in the traffic. Into The Night has some very brilliant vocals in it with high falsettos dancing and then some very nice highs and mids the vocals suit perfect. The Drums on this album are very marchy and push the songs forward. Something about this album I noticed is some of the lyrics are humourous which is always a good thing. The Bass playing is quite basic but suits the music very well as this music is complex but is complex as whole rather than with each individual the overall music makes it more complicated that said the bass does play a lead element in places which is cool and is quite melodic in it's own right.
This particular album sound rather like it would be at home in the 70's prog explosion, Definatley a Fine fine album

This is progressive rock a la carte! One of the beautiful things about this band is that they bring back the sounds of 70`s greats prog-rockers like Gentle Giant or Genesis with a... Read morePublished on 2 May 2012 by Andrei Aciobanitei
