Edit: I have opened one up to see what is going on inside. It looks like the earth connector should be glued down to a small plastic pin, or perhaps the plastic pin is supposed to be melted and compressed to hold the earth connector down. Either way, the metal earth pin is NOT fixed down, to falls out and rattles loose the first time a plug is put in. IMO they *could* be fixed, but without that fix, these things could be *lethal*. Don't touch them, please, unless you fully understand the issue, know how to dismantle them and how to fix them. For the average user - DO NOT BUY.
In pretty much every country a Europlug will work. This is the one that is shaped

However, this is only for double earthed equipment and up to 2.5 amps (650 watt).
Perfect for most computer type charging etc. Useless/dangerous for hairdryers.
More universal (everywhere in Europe except Denmark Italy and Switzerland) is what is known as a Schuko plug. Technical name is Type C 7/7 or CEE 7/7. It is also sometimes known as a Type E or Type E/F.
The Schuko plug has two prongs and an earth. It has a hole to accommodate the (slowly dying out) French/Belgian sockets with the pin in the socket. It also has a slot at both top and bottom. If these slots do not have a strip of metal then it is not earthed.
Most of Italy will take the Schuko but Venice, Rome and a small number of rural places occasionally still use the incompatible three pin Italian variant but by and large all Italy is now coming into line. If needed, a very cheap Italy to Schuko converter is very easily available in Italian supermarkets etc. As at January 2016 they were just over one Euro in Lidl in Rome.
I have no experience with Denmark and very little with Switzerland but I imagine that they, too, will have readily available adapters. The Schuko also works in many other countries including all of N Africa.
The Schuko plug is good for 16 amps (which is a lot!!!).
One other thing. Should you decide to make your own trailing bar with a Schuko plug remember that, unlike UK plugs, there is no fuse in the plug so choose a trailing bar that incorporates a fuse.13 amp is standard and will cope with nearly everything.Read more ›
I bought a set of 5 of these adapters before our family holiday in France last year. I was a tad cautious given some of the other reviews - but I needn't have worried. These work just fine - they fit the French mains sockets perfectly and the UK plugs fit straight into these sockets with out issue.
We've now had a few holidays abroad and these adapters are still going strong - despite the abuse a family can throw at them!
When compared with high street prices, these are an absolute bargain.
I am very pleased with my purchase.
I shall update the review if something happens.

Pretty cheap construction, but it does the job, and they're cheap enough to give to the kids without worrying about them getting lost.Published 6 days ago by Alec
They're ok. Not the best quality but fine for charging phones etc and very cheap price so can't complain really.Published 13 days ago by Liam
Do exactly what they're supposed to - great value for money. They are the standard adaptors that you can buy in supermarkets and at airports at massively inflated prices. Read morePublished 21 days ago by Tom
