Graphics - The graphics are pretty good to say this is quite an old game, this is probably because the game is still on the Wii U rather than the old Wii (though you can purchase it for both).
Gameplay - I think my son found this game a little bit harder than the others, and he seemed to lose interest a bit faster, this could be due to the fact that the game doesn't have much extras like trapping villains, etc.
Storyline - These earlier skylanders have much more personality about them, I find the later games seem to be more rushed.
Money - This is the best part of buying one of these earlier versions, the add-ons are much cheaper! For anyone who doesn't know, when you buy Skylanders you must keep buying add-on content such as different maps, different characters. The different characters will unlock different moves and different levels in the game. This can all get pretty expensive for the newer games at least. However, I noticed that for this game, the figures are usually anywhere between £1 - £3 which is much cheaper than the usual £10 - £15 you may be expected to pay per character. This makes the game a complete bargain compared to the newer games in the franchise.
Overall this game is a complete bargain since it isn't that outdated and is so cheap. This would make for a good practice game for anyone wondering if their children would like Skylanders or not before buying in to the more expensive games. Regardless, this game is definitely worth it at this price.
The starter kit comes witha portal of power, a copy of the game and 3 figures. This being the Giants edition or sequel means you get to invest additional funds on the new Skylanders. The game is fairly straight forward, throw a figure on the portal of power what the character come to life on the screen, beat the enemies collect the treasure and your done.
It's all fairly straight forward with nothing complex to worry young ones with. As you play the game you collect money (gems) this can then be used to power up your skylander, it's important to note that the skylander you use collects the money, this is not shared across the various characters. So it's great if you have a few as you are more than likely to power them all up throughtout the adventure.
Every character that you buy and then add to the game also adds an additional challenge mode, these can be played by all the characters and help in developing it's stats. It's all very standard adventure game fun.
The one thing worth noting is Skylanders is an expensive business, figures cost up to £13 each and you have around 40 in total to collect...
