Oh.My.God

The entire budget of this movie seems to have gone into designing the cover of the DVD, which has absolutely nothing to do with the film. Literally nothing.

In short, do not buy this DVD under any circumstances unless you're looking to be outraged or humored by a massively mislabeled and misleading cover and synopsis on the back. You could not get away with this in most consumer markets - this is the equivalent of picking up a tin of peaches from your supermarket and finding that it only contains dead mice dressed in little peach colored jackets. You don't want dead mice, you want peaches.

It was actually in the supermarket that we saw this DVD and, both being lovers of sci-fi, thought it looked pretty good on the cover - reassured by the four-starred 'visually stunning' review on the cover that is supplied by the West Los Angles Times, who have either watched the film whilst blindfolded or after having consumed a large amount of hallucinogenic drugs. The film could never be visually stunning because it is set, almost in its entirety, in the poorest, flimsiest, cheapest looking film set I have ever seen that basically consists of a cardboard 'science lab' from the poorer side of the 1980's, a warehouse and an apartment. There is no space, no 'Skyhook' that we see on the cover - nothing.

The acting is appalling, the direction is appalling, the editing is appalling and the characters are funny for all the wrong reasons. I would expect to see this film on TV very late at night on a cheap digital channel, its only use being to help people suffering with insomnia to get to sleep.

I watched every 92 minutes of the films run-time in pure amazement, certain that there had been a terrible mistake in the packaging and distribution warehouse and that the wrong film had been put in the case. Just terrible.

well actually some tripe could probably have acted better, I have seen better production from a school full of 10yr olds putting on a science project. How on earth did they get the money to make this film, and as for the so called stunning special effects, who could possible have seen this rubbish and then said that there were any special effects, my toilet light shade has more special effects in it than this film. Can I sue for a misleading image on the sleeve, do not quite know where the images came from that they used, but they are not in the film at all. Trades description act offence here somewhere. I may as well have thrown my money down the drain. Massive disappointment, do not buy this film.

I wish I could give this film a minus rating, because it does not even deserve a Zero. The acting when you can hear the dialogue over the appalling plinky plonk soundtrack is worse than amateur. The scenes cut from one to another seemingly at random and when an actor is being dramatic (or trying to be) the scenes are in slow motion. As for special effects forget the impressive looking space elevator on the sleeve, that isn't in it. The one that is in it around 70 minutes into the film looks like it was created on a 1980s home computer, its that bad. I couldn't believe that a film this bad could get released, I was wrong.

If I can prevent anyone else from buying this rubbish then, at least, some good will have come from my buying it. Quite simply the worst film I have ever seen and I can't tell you what happened after the first quarter of an hour as I turned it off (it really is that bad). Ham acting, awful sets, ridiculous plot, inaudible sound track, etc ... how, on Earth, was this trash allowed to be released?

Truly awful. The cast forget even simple lines. Watching them parrot syllables from their mouths while their eyes ask "is that a word?" makes the plot look decent by comparison. And the plot is laughable. I wondered if it was a junior high school project. Perhaps a comedian wrote a sketch about an over-ambitious-but-rubbish amateur dramatic society, only for the script to fall into the hands of someone who thought it was meant to be a real movie. I wondered if the distributors campaigned for a 15 certificate to fool you into thinking something, anything, might happen. Even the credit reel is beyond belief - the person doing the hair & make-up comes at the top. You should note that there aren't any special make-up effects in case that intrigues you.
This thing cost $5.7 million! They made two sequels!! Keith David's in the second one!!!

If you want "so bad it's good" watch Rubber, by Quentin Dupieux
If you want shoestring budget sci-fi that really does have "stunning visuals" watch Iron Sky (director's cut) by Timo Vuorensola
If you want actors you've never seen before, pick something from the World Cinema section

Quite apart from being the worst film I've ever watched I believe strongly that the marketing of this film breaks the spirit of the Trades Description act. The cover artwork bears no relation to the film and the description 'visually stunning' is nothing short of a lie. If I was a retailer I would withdraw it from sale.
