Product description
Our first test on the Sky-Watcher Explorer-130 was to check the collimation of the mirrors, which we found were well aligned. This scope has one of the largest mirrors in its price range, which is a great asset because it means it can gather more light...Optically, the quality of the field of view while studying the star Altair was very good using the supplied 25mm eyepiece. The star remained sharp across 80 per cent of the view, with only slight distortion close to the field edges….Taking everything into account, this telescope made observing the night sky enjoyable and relatively hassle free….great views coupled with ease of use.

Next stop learning how to line up the equatorial mount properly: the moon was moving out of view so quickly it’ll be a real advantage to be able to track things with a little tweak of the DEC axis. And I also want to look for some planets. Maybe even try hooking up an DSLR....
Jupiter and its moons - and these can easily be upgraded if the user develops well and wants to take things to the next level.
The mount is solid with decent quality mirrors which come ready to use and overall I'd consider this to be lightweight enough to lug around if you need to. All in, I would recommend this as a reliable and affordable first step into space...
The EQ Mount can be very useful for tracking objects but it takes quite a bit of setting up (instructions not very clear) and the adjustment wheel is awkwardly far away from the eyepiece. Luckily, I have orangutan arms but most people will have to break away from looking to find / operate the EQ mount.
My biggest complaint (hence the missing star) is this telescope's photographic performance...
I wanted to get some decent pictures of the moon and planets but you can never quite get them into focus with a DSLR.
I've read that I might need to look into projection photography but it's a little disappointing to see the object so clear in the eyepiece and then get a blur when you try to take a picture.
The set-up instructions could have been clearer, but the English used was a lot better than the usual 'Chinglish' ...except for the instruction to tighten nuts 'using the wench provided!'
