What can I say? I am lost for words...this author's ability has reached the point to get the reader to his knees! She owned to her characters and to the reader for providing a very emotional journey that connects the reader on a very personal level. It's a truly inspiring love story that brings a very positive message, that "obstacles of life" can be truly overcome! That brings me to the Hero Hayden. What a brave man! Another "Hero" of Mrs Sparksman that lacks nothing, on the contrary...There is no man on this earth that deserved Beth like this Hero!

He fought for the heroine so hard, I sometimes was angry with Beth for being so stubborn and although I understood her inability to open up herself, I wanted whats best for the Hero and when he was suffering I was suffering too. Where do you get those Heroes? There is just not enough of them in this world and the author just showed that "a real man" is one that has the ability to fight for his last breath to win the woman that he loves and want to spend the rest of his life with! It just to show that faith can bring two people together and even make them stronger together! Beth was a very lucky woman to have a Hero like that on her side...she overcome such "realistic" illness many face today! I wish there was more Heroes like Hayden to stand by the women like Beth who desperately needs that light in the tunnel!

Skin Deep is book #3 in the Stolen Breaths series, I was gifted a copy of this book to read for Gemma Reads Too Much.

Again with this book Pamela Sparkman provides a deeply emotional journey for Hayden and Beth.

This author really likes to add ALL the feels and this book looks at every emotional aspect of Beth’s illness and their hidden secrets.

Like the other books in the series, Skin Deep is written in a very formal and well spoken dialogue. It’s most definitely PG13 with no sex, swearing or anything that could be construed as offensive.

This book deals with the very real and sensitive subject of eating disorders; I actually enjoyed how Beth’s illness was dealt with. I thought that it made a difficult subject more easily discussed without diminishing the seriousness of the subject.

Hayden is a lovely guy, all of the men in this series are towers of strength and as close as possible to the fantasised ‘perfect guy’.

This is a nice book, it’s polite and well-mannered but I missed the rough around the edges grit that makes the book world just that little bit closer to real life.

I don’t have a heart of stone though and I did cry like an idiot at the final couple of chapters!!!

Pamela Sparkman really does like her twists of fate and yet again fate the fickle little b*tch raised her hand and threw a great big coincidence in their to reinforce the fact that everything in life is preordained by fate herself!!

If the world were full of people like the characters in these books then it would be a much happier, more harmonious place.

Skin Deep was just a little bit too straight edge for me and gets 3 stars.

4 - "I'd rather have the ache than to never have had a reason to ache in the first place." Stars!

Pam Sparkman almost broke me with the first 20% of this book, I don’t mean that in a derogatory way but more in a hit-you-straight-in-the- heart, grab it with both hands, squeeze it hard and leave you gasping for breath, and drying your eyes.

”Sometimes finding ways to survive can nearly kill you.”

But continuing with Hayden and Beth’s story to the end, as well as encountering all of the ups and downs they overcame and embraced in-between definitely gave me a full emotional work out. Pam has a way to taking an uncomfortable, and sometimes what we perceive as an unapproachable subject and giving it beauty through her writing, not in a way that condones or encourages, but in such a way that makes you rethink your perceptions and reconsider your ideals, whilst going through the characters experiences with them, some things resonate more with us as readers than others and although I cannot claim to have experienced any of the things that either character dealt with in Skin Deep, the writing bought their issues very much into my head and heart and pulled me along with them for the whole book.

Another thing you can always expect with a book from this author is that it will never begin, evolve or end the way you expect it to. The characters sometimes have more going on they you initially expect, and there is always at least one twist you didn’t see coming, and just when you thought you had everything figured out she throws one more sledgehammer straight into your heart.

”How do I make you understand something I don’t understand.

WARNING…HAVE YOUR TISSUES READY GIRLS!!!

I knew I was in for a treat with Hayden and Beth’s story. Their love is a once in a lifetime type of love. This book was heartbreaking and beautiful all at the same time. Skin deep is my favorite book of the series. Pamela’s writing was phenomenal in this book. This is an emotional read but so worth all the tears.

Beth has a secret and oh what a secret. Whilst trying to deal with her troubles we find a beautiful woman, strong, sweet, loving are all word I would use to describe her, but Brave is by far the top of the list.

Hayden is 100% swoon worthy; everyone needs a knight in shining armour, he is loving, patient and Kind. He wants Beth fiercely but knows that the only way to have her is to help her and become her rock.

Together their relationship grows due to the fact that they help one another heal from the inside out and this is what makes them the strong couple they become.

HASH(0x9f86b798) out of 5 stars Amazing and beautiful. 28 Aug. 2015

4.5 to 5 stars!!!

Absolutely amazing book! Pamela Sparkman did it again!

After reading, and loving Stolen Breaths and Shattered I knew this was going to be good because I trust this author to write a beautiful love story. The three men, Cooper, Joe and Hayden are like the trifecta of perfect heroes. Whew!!

In this book, we finally find out what has been going on with Hayden and Beth. Unfortunately, both have been struggling with issues, but Beth's is absolutely heartbreaking. Hayden turns out to be one of the most amazing, beautiful, generous heroes (and humans in general) that I have read about. This man's heart and capacity for giving to others knows no bounds. I adored him. Beth, despite her struggles, was sweet, kind-hearted and courageous. With Hayden's support and love, she bravely faced the challenges she needed to in order to find happiness and love. While Hayden helped her, she in turn, inspired and supported him and brought him the peace and happiness he needed.

I loved being able to hang with Cooper, Lily, Maggie, Joe and Ms. Sophie again. Even better, a couple of new characters stole my heart, especially sweet adorable little Annie.

One of the things I liked the most about this book and the other two as well, is that the love these couples find is once-in-a-lifetime soulmate type of love. I am 100% convinced that the hero and heroine are experiencing something they never have before and never will again. There was no OW/OM New Adult/Contemporary Romance type of melodrama. We didn't ever hear about Hayden's past sex life or have women coming on to him. As a side note, it is important to know that this is a clean romance. There is kissing, hugging, and inferred lovemaking, but no graphic sex scenes.

When you read this, have tissues on hand!! Early on, there were moments that hurt to read, and by the end, I had to go find some privacy to read and cry (so my boys wouldn't laugh at me. lol).

Overall, the story is wonderful. And there was one event (well, the way it all played out) that I did not see coming AT ALL. It blew me away with the emotional intensity of it. It was beautiful.

Skin Deep can be read as a standalone, but I would recommend readers start with Stolen Breaths. The hero trifecta are in all three, as are the three heroines, and the way everything wraps up would be WAY more meaningful if you have been reading about these characters since Stolen Breaths.

But for all that you come away knowing that you have been a part of something so very special and totally unforgettable. I don’t really want to talk too much about the story, as it would be easy to give things away, and I think the journey that Hayden and Beth go on together is a special one, it is more than just the building of a relationship between two people, and there are more than just a few obstacles in their path as they navigate their way through.

You also get the chance to catch up with Lily & Cooper; (Book one, Stolen Breaths) and Maggie & Joe; (Book two, Shattered) as well as the inimitable Miss Sophie, in this instalment in the series, and see how their lives are moving on as Hayden and Beth’s story progresses.

I want to be courageously in love forever… because he made me want forever.

Another outstanding read, and I cannot wait to see where Ms. Sparkman takes this series next!

HASH(0x87c25270) out of 5 stars Sweet Story 20 July 2015

This story turned out to be more than I expected and I loved it. Beth is struggling with her eating disorder and Hayden shows his support and love for Beth and you can feel how much he cares for her. Hayden is also taking care of his stepsister and her mother. Hayden is possibly the nicest man I have ever read about. He gives everything to his family and his friends and deserves to be loved as much as he loves. This was an incredible book with a topic that could be heavy but it was dealt with in a tender and understanding way that touched your heart.

I know you see it time and time again with reviews, "this book is amazing" "A must read" and on and on...then there are books like this. I can count on 1 hand how many books have packed an emotional gut punch...and Skin Deep is one of them.
The story is beautiful. It touches you in such a way that you won't forget this one for a long time, if ever. Hayden is absolutely the perfect book boyfriend. Patient, loving, empathetic, all the while carrying the weight of his own demons. His to-do list will melt your heart. Beth is living a lie. Everything about her is a facade. She's hidden things for so long, it's second nature to her. No one can find out, what would they say? How can she explain to them how she feels? Some things are best to be kept secrets...then came Hayden. Who burst open the dam.

There are times this book is not easy to read. There are times when you will struggle to read through the tears. What these two have been through is heart breaking. Their journey to heal is simply beautiful.

The supporting characters help shape this amazing romance. Annie will capture your heart. I really needed more Dozer dialogue(seriously, he is hilarious). The one thing that stuck out for me throughout the book, was the strength these two characters had. Each had their own burdens, their own struggles and both of them handled them in the best way that they could, but it was THEIR way. They did what was best for themselves, especially Beth, before taking the next step. This is how a love story should be written. From the broken beginning, to the beautiful end.

While, I read this as a stand alone and followed along fine, I feel that I could have gotten just a bit more from the secondary characters if I would have known their back stories. Nevertheless, you still feel like you are a part of their circle.
HASH(0x89b6f72c) out of 5 stars 4.5 Stars!! Another fantastic book in this series! 7 Aug. 2015
By Shelley - Published on Amazon.com

Having read the other two books in this series, I was more than a little eager to get my hands on this book. This series is not only about the love stories, but the story of a close-knit group of friends who are more like a family. Each book focuses on a different couple, but the other characters from the previous two books do make appearances. You could read Skin Deep as a standalone, however, I would certainly recommend reading the other books so that you can get a full appreciation of the friendship and love that surrounds these characters.

Beth lives her life behind a mask, only showing people the bare minimum. She plasters on a smile to greet the outside world, but beneath it all she is a woman in pain. She has experienced a great deal of loss, shame, and hurt in her young life. Beth would like nothing more than to be free of her demons and live a normal life, but she can’t escape the pain that she harbors inside – she craves the release that only purging will effectuate.

Hayden just wants to know Beth. Really know her. He feels a pull towards her, but just as much as he is pulled towards her, she pushes him away. He wants to be part of her life, to help her, to be there for her. When Hayden finds out the secret that Beth has been hiding from everyone, it only fuels his desire to help her get better.

Once again, Pamela Sparkman has created a male protagonist that has set the bar very high for any other male character. She has a knack for taking the “nice guy” and making her readers completely fall for him. Hayden is loyal, trustworthy, and a stand-up guy. He doesn’t need to be the bad boy, the unattainable womanizer, he is just a normal man who happens to be one hell of a good guy – and that, my friends, is sexy as hell.

Beth isn’t the only one keeping secrets. Hayden has been keeping a secret from everyone as well. He has been carrying around his own feelings of hurt, shame, and resentment for something that he had no control over. But Hayden being Hayden has tried to correct the wrongs that were done, and in turn, he has created something absolutely beautiful.

I don’t want to get into too much detail about the story. What I can say is that Pamela Sparkman always puts out a quality piece of writing. Her characters are normal and likable. She has taken serious subject matter and has treated it with a level of grace and dignity. One of my favorite aspects of this series would definitely be the close bond between the characters. They aren’t without their faults, but they are all genuinely good people who prove that families can exist without being tied by blood. Ms. Sophie is the grandmotherly figure who grounds all of these characters, and yes, she likes to dabble in the art of matchmaking. Love her!

Skin Deep is an emotional book that tears at your heart just as much as it heals it. For the last forty minutes of the book I was clutching a crumpled tissue in my hand and wiping my eyes repeatedly just to be able to read the words. It’s romantic, it’s heartwarming, it’s heartbreaking…it’s another beautiful addition to this series.
