He has a huge following among leisure painters and has had 8 successful TV series on Channel 4. He has also made many successful videos on painting. He is Founder of the Society of Amateur Artists and President of the National Acrylic Painters Association. The book does give guidance about why sketching is important, in terms of "setting a scene". However, another point here is the seemingly easy dismissal of photography as an aid. With the advent of cheap digital cameras, this seems niggardly. Take a photo, then sketch. Compare the two mages late.
The book does make the important point of sletches being quick and simple. Simplifying what is seen, and then depicted in the image is stressed throughout. Worthwhile, but not standalone in my opinion.
