You know, I had been so looking forward to this maybe too much and it was never going to live up to the expectation?
But, it ended up being an ok read. But just an ok read.
We get very very little POV form the heroine so most of our impression of her is from the hero, who starts the book very angry and bitter toward the heroine. We see nothing of them as a happy couple before, and they have been together for 14 years!
The lack of a heroine POV made her quite an unsympathetic character. But as I read, it felt like the heroine just did not matter. Very little POV, and then only a cpl paragraphs here and there, the hero is ALL about HIS dream and how it was THEIR dream and they were both working towards HIS dream. It took till after 30% before we are even told what the heroine did for a living, it felt as if she mattered so little. Then the hero gets all surprised that she has wanted to be a teacher for years, since what had been her wish clearly for having children had been put off. He has been with this woman for 14 years! And yet seemed surprised she had dreams of her own that did not revolve around his career. Even going so far as telling her repeatedly, she did not need to work and even with her telling him she wanted to, he kept telling her she did not need to.Read more ›
It was awkward, sensitive and sexy,in the way of real life, but properly worked through and good to read. I thing it gives hope that good can come from bad situation s.
It's the first of Laramies books I have read but I shall definitely be looking for others.
Sketch is completely lost after his wife Nina leaves him. Nina doesn’t know what else to do, she loves her husband but while he’s been so focused on getting his business up and running he has forgotten how to be a loving husband. She’s lonely and needs her husband’s attention, not money!
You get both POVs in this book which I LOVE!!! You get in the mind set of both of them, you’re pulled from pillar to post as you feel for each one. You get to find out both views on what happened, what’s happening and where their journeys are taking them.
When Sketch and Nina begin to finally talk about their old married life and where their emotions were at the point of Nina leaving, they both know they still love each other and decide to go back to basics, start dating and letting each day take them as it comes but ever so quickly they begin to see that the people they’ve turned in to, isn’t who they were and it’s like they’ve met all over again… it’s heart breaking but refreshing and HOT. Sketch is the man!
Their story is a beautiful one, it’s a great example of how to try and work your marriage out. I personally haven’t read anything like it so it was an invigorating read.
This is a story about a marriage break-up and realising the things that have gone wrong through the years. But the love is still there between them and about rebuilding a relationship.
I love the fact that this is told mainly from the mans point of view. It is a refreshing insight to see what feelings and emotions a man goes through after having his heart broken. Then the exciting feelings he goes through when Sketch and Nina decide to work it out step by step. Laramie Briscoe has written this so well you can feel the emotions and excitement Sketch goes through as you turn the pages.
I read this book in one sitting I just couldn’t put it down. It is very gripping and refreshing read I highly recommend it.
