How it works
Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Shape Ups feature a unique, soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to simulate walking barefoot on a giving surface that gives, such as sand.

With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its center, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back, and abdominal muscles as you stabilize your steps.

Due to this unconventional matter of walking, we suggest that you moderate your walking routine in Shape Ups for the first week or two (25 to 45 minutes per day), depending on your level of fitness. As you continue to wear Shape Ups, your body will adjust to this new method of walking. You will find it easy and comfortable while still enjoying the strengthening and cardiovascular benefits.

Shape up while you stand

Conventional footwear does not provide proper support or aide in correct posture for long periods of standing. With Shape Ups, the simulation of soft ground will ease the stress on your joints, promote correct posture, and strengthen selected muscles as you naturally work to keep your centre of balance.

To properly stand in your Shape Ups, stand upright and find your center of balance with your feet parallel and hip-distance apart.

Shape up while you walk
To walk correctly in Shape Ups, step forward with the middle section of your heel hitting the ground first. This should give you the feeling of walking on soft ground. Roll forward onto the ball of your food and then the flat part of your toes.

Your stance should not be as wide as you walk. Your front foot should still be under your body, giving you a natural and comfortable step. This rhythmic and easy gait will help you maintain your balance. For maximum benefit, strike heel first. Then roll forward.

Get in the routine

As you walk in Shape Ups, be aware of the position of your shoes and ankles. Your ankles should not roll or bend inward, but remain parallel.

The position of your back and neck should be straight. Do not look down; look ahead to where you are going. This will keep your posture straight, resulting in tightening of your back and stomach muscles, and the lengthening of your body into a leaner line.

Exaggerated movements are part of some walking routines (such as knee raises), but with Shape Ups, your movements should be fluid and smooth.

While a natural pace is best for everyday walking, we suggest you switch up your gait -- slowing down to focus on your steps, or kicking it up a notch to get your blood flowing.

I was a bit apprehensive buying these online as I hadnt seen them in the shops. Wanted a pair of MBTs but without the price tag - these were more within my budget. Overall they are much nicer to look at than the Ugly MBTs, infact I would nearly go so far as to say they're actually quite trendy looking! I cant say if they are as good as I dont own the MBTs but when you walk you can certainly feel your calves and thighs responding. It says to build up your walking time gradually and I would agree - after barely 10mins I could start to feel the burn. Not sure if they do all they promise, but they certainly help. I have tendonitis in my ankles and do find them to be a great support and very comfortable. My one fault so far, and Im not really sure its a fault of the shoe, is that I find that unless I concentrate on the heel-toe way they tell you to walk, my feet tend to slide into the inside of the trainer and I have to stop and centre them again. They are a good purchase I wear mine all the time now but it is important to build up your wearing time. I got them in navy and white and they really are lovely, I would definitely recommend them!

These trainers were highly recommended by colleagues at work - many people who are on their feet all day were recommending Sketchers or MBTs and other so-called anti-shoes. A ringing endorsement came from one man who claimed that since wearing his trainers, he had "buttocks like fighting squirrels".

Having worn them for about four weeks, I have not yet replicated this finding. After my first half hour walk, my calves felt tight as though I had been exercising. Tolerance quickly builds up and at the end of the day my feet ache less and my legs feel better than they would after standing and walking around in standard trainers.

Sadly, one shoe has already ripped along the detailing (after no undue abuse). Having spent £90 on what is, after all, an expensive pair of popular, over-engineered trainers, I am most disappointed. I am hoping that a replacement pair will be forthcoming and better made.

These trainers make some mighty claims about what they can do to tone you up with out the need for a gym, now I am not too sure that they actually deliver all that they claim.
The rocking action when you walk certainly feels a little different to walking in normal trainers and I can feel it in my stomach muscles a little, particularly when I first put them on in the morning, how much good this is doing is up for debate though.
What I feel is the real joy of these trainers is the massive cushioning of the sole and the excellent support that they offer your foot.
I ( unfortunately) suffer from plantar faciitis, which can be agony after a day on my feet and these help this no end. they support the arch of my foot and hold my foot securely in place while I walk about, now they aren't a miracle cure, however, they do help a lot. I have less pain when walking and after my foot has been rested and whilst they are not very pretty to look they help a lot.

Sketchers really are a superior make!
I already own a pair of their trainers,10 yrs old, I now use them for gardening in but still as comfy as ever!!
These 'shape ups' are new to me.
I'm 5ft tall and was looking to buy a pair of trainers to give me a little height!!
Found these and thought 'shape up' was a bonus!!
(Was a little worried as I have bad ankles that give at any moment and short tendons which make me walk more on my toes than putting whole foot down-however......
No ankle roll or painful ankles-yeah!
And they make me walk properly in a good way-as in a no effort required way!!)
Yes they are extremly comfy to walk in.
Yes they do ease aches n pains of being on your feet all day.
Yes they do give you an extra spring in your step.
Yes they do work your muscles but not in any way does it feel like extra effort and excersise-you can feel the benefits after you have taken them off in your muscles!
It's hard to explain but they really do work and are super comfy!!
So for me a bonus as I would of brought them as just trainers!!
Sizing: I'm a UK size 4.5 with wide feet.
Brought a UK 4.5 and fit perfectly.
These trainers are for normal to wide feet, if you have very narrow long feet, they will fit but you may have to wear thick socks! (If you have bunions, try Sketchers, my mother wears a lot of their range due to her bunion!!)
I'd say buy your exact size or half size smaller if your exact size gives you a bit of room at end. Hope that helps.
Also these 'shape ups' come in a wide variety, including gym trainers, cross trainers, casual shoe and even a flip flop version.
They are varied in strength of 'shape ups' sole too.

These are great shoes and my second pair of shape ups. The first was the Skechers Women's Shape-Ups Sleek Fit Trainer and they are easier to adjust to and much more comfortable however I am thrilled I also got the trainer version. These are a generous sizing i.e., if you are a size 5 get it they will fit and I am a 5.5 shoe and these are perfect. You really don't realise you are giving your legs a workout until you wear them regularly and walk often. I walked 4 miles today (instead of taking the bus!) and I felt I got a great workout. They seem expensive at about £70 each but I literally no longer wear anything else but my 2 pairs of skechers. I don't go to the gym so it's cheaper than a membership and you can feel your butt getting "higher" is the only way I can describe it but firmer and your legs definitely feel they are working. Plus they are high up so you get a nice gain in height and better posture. They are cute too the two tone sole makes them look less like medical shoes and more like cute trainers. I can't recommend this brand enough esp if you want to lose a bit of weight. Imagine what I could achieve if I actually exercised!
