I had been expecting this release since I first discovered that love for ska music was written on my blood.

Bad Manners is one of those universal bands that have earned by far their place on top of the hall of fame of jamaican flavored music (ska, rocksteady, reggae, etc.). In the 90s, when I entered the fantastic world of ska, the only thing you could get in the music shops by Bad Manners was some low-quality compilations made by second-line labels that mixed some live and studio records from different eras and with no clear direction... And any true follower of the band, would undoubtedly search for the original albums on a CD edition. At least I did search. I asked all specialized shops, all usual sources (both physical and virtual) with no results.

But finally, thanks to the people of the Cherry Red Records "Pressure Drop" Label, the first 4 Bad Manners albums were re-issued on wonderful brand new CD editions with plenty of quite good bonus tracks. Those albums are Ska N B, Loonee Tunes!, Gosh It's and Forging Ahead. (Just for the record I must thank them as well for the reedition of the Laurel Aitken records)

So far, let's focus on the reedition of the first of Bad Manners records: Ska'N'B. The album was released on 1980 and reached number 34 on the UK charts.

Very good debut from the early 80's ska pop band. Bad Manners were more of the goofy fun party band that the public mistakenly thought Madness was; Buster Bloodvessel and company do have the occasional serious tune like "Inner London Violence" on here, showing that they were aware of their time and place, but they for the most part stick to lighter fare. Indeed, like many of the UK ska bands of the late 70's/early 80's they didn't limit themselves to bluebeat, as the album title indicates; more than half the album is covers, many of those originally by non-ska acts (Sam The Sham's "Wooly Bully" in particular seems perfectly suited for this group, the horns adding that extra touch). Even so, the standout numbers for me besides the aforementioned "Inner London Violence" are the three singles: "Ne Ne Na Na Na Na Nu Nu" (a late 50's novelty song) and the originals "Lip Up Fatty" and "Special Brew". You have to hand it to any band that can craft a love song to a brand of beer that's musically inventive too. They would make three more albums with this lineup, all showing musical growth, but this is where they started, and in 2015 it's still a good party record.

Absolutely brilliant, one of my all time favourites. Other than the big hits, Scruffy the Huffy Chuffy Tugboat stands out, Buster at his silly best.

There first album still sounds superb 35 years on. Not a bad track on it. It's a toss up whether this or 'loonee tunes' are better. Followed closely by 'gosh its'

ONE OF THE GREATEST DEBUT SKA ALBUMS FROM THE 80'S SKA ERA.

BAD MANNERS WERE AN ENTERTAINING BAND & STILL ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
