Uplifting Christmas fiction

I was looking for a Christmas novel, without the cheesy romance and obvious boy meets girl story line.
This book definitely ticked the box and I would thoroughly recommend it. The adult characters and descriptions are realistic; sensitively acknowledging mental health, loneliness, single parenthood. The book covers lifelike situations relevant to this time; struggling independent bookshops, Christmas expectations; teachers in a small rural school, Church Nativity production, the coming together of community; village life at it's best.
After a year like no other, this book really lifts your spirits.

I bought this book on the recommendation of a friend, and I've loved it from the first page.

The characters are believable - annoying and likeable in equal measure! - and I've turned the (electronic) pages eagerly to find out what happens to them. At the same time I haven't wanted to get to the end - for me, the sign of a good book. (I've also added a few books to my wish list as I've gone!!)

I loved this tale of a small town bookshop and the owners struggles to keep it going. It seemed very realistic and (especially since the COVID pandemic) very up to date. Particularly enjoyed that the characters were mostly adults and their emotions were vividly real.

Bought this for my mum. She described it as as an easy to read yet thought-provoking story with believable problems. Lost a star as there is a scene with children giving mince pies to a dog. Mince pies are poisonous to dogs so this isn't a great scene for a cosy Christmas story! Apart from that, she enjoyed it.
