About the Author

G. J. Lau was born in a small town near Boston. He was raised on a steady diet of family, politics, and the Red Sox. After graduating from Georgetown University, he spent two years in the Army, including a year in Viet Nam in the 1st Infantry Division. He worked in as a radio operator and had the opportunity to serve in many varied locations including a battalion night defensive position, a special forces camp, and an indeterminate piece of real estate populated by scorpions and Montagnards. He then worked for the Federal government in Washington, D.C. until retirement. Since then he has done a stint in retail and now works in elections. He has volunteered as a literacy tutor, a hotline listener and as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for children in need of assistance. He currently resides in a small city just far enough from Washington DC to be somewhere else.

The writer is part of the tactical operations centre operaing a radio so apart from some guard duty on the perimeter there is no in country action as such. It does give an insight into how central operations fuctioned though. Not in the same league as blood trails or dear mom but for the price (kindle edition) worth a read which is why i give it 4 stars

I liked this book, it was a nice quick read and cost next to nothing. It wasn't action packed but still made an interesting read. I've read lots of other books on the Vietnam War and still found out something new. Thankfully it didn't also read like a novel.

This book might as well be called 'me and my radio and a book full of boredom'
Very dull and totally full of non events. For this to be published up against such books as chickenhawk is madness. Sorry but this book really did nothing for me and if you want a gripping read on a Vietnam tour then steer well wide of this........
