Sublime gothy-folky gal manages to be a melange of fragile, brittle, sad, delicate, punchy, catchy, eerie...Frequently quivering with an indefinable nostalgia, never merely wispy, perhaps weighted with the wistful, hints of melancholy hanging in the air like mist or fog. Imagine a sad silvery sound, occasionally lingering, acoustic autumnal sounds without overbearing mournful dirges.

Perhaps the musical equivalent of a discarded remnant of a lace bodice or unfettered veil fluttering over the ground, only to be captured with repeated attempts, to reveal a tatter of shroud. Totally original to herself, Marissa Nadler would catch the ear of Poe & his kith and kin...bearing a touch of perhaps a youthful Marianne Faithfull if she took to the laudanum & rode bareback across america upon an ageless black pony...

I have all Marissa's albums now and have been a faithful follower for nearly ten years, so I'm hugely biased, but I can listen to her all day on random repeat (given the chance) and still find something new. She's not everyone's cup of tea but I for one love her to bits.

Here lies an absolutely stunning collection of songs performed with such poise, beauty and passion. Nadler's touching melancholy and sirenesc performance leads an eclectic folknoir croon and serenading sound.

Mesmerising guitar arpeggios dazzling with rich overtones cycle along side dreamy lyrics, often speaking of life changing moments and guilt free confessionals. Interestingly, many of her songs actually "end" rather than fade out.

There doesn't seem to be any struggle for soul searching or disparate creativity, all of her music finds a resting place few other artists rarely achieve.

An outstanding mesmerising collection of songs.
