Product Description

With a light intensity reduction of ten f-stops, this B+W Neutral Density Filter has a slightly stronger warm tone than the ND 106. Its principal field of application is the observation and documentation of industrial processes with extreme brightness, such as steel furnaces, incinerators, glowing filaments in halogen- and other bulbs. The filter factor is 1000x.

Each glass surface is vacuum coated with one layer of Anti-Reflection coating. This single layer helps to prevent internal ghosting and reflections. It also improves light transmission from approximately 92% (uncoated glass) to over 98%.

This filter uses our standard B+W F-Pro filter mount, which has a front accessory thread and is made of brass. Compared to the earlier standard mount introduced in 2001, the F-Pro mount has become thinner. Now it can be used with wide angle lenses, including most 24mm focal lengths on a full frame body, without vignetting. Another advantage of the F-Pro mount is it's modified retaining ring, which is no longer threaded in from the front, but holds the filter glass in place from the back. When removing a filter or lens hood that has been screwed on too tight to the filter, the retaining ring is not at risk of loosening.
NOTE: diopters are mounted in the older mount due to glass thickness.

    I was told one can't go wrong with B+W, and that was right!

    For the 10-stop, I thought I would spend a little more and go for B+W - correct decision!

    Great filter, heavy and solid feel. I can see a clear difference compared to my Hoya - did not notice a tinge of any colour and I was able to get good 80-second to 320-second exposures on my 7D.

    The screw in filter is also reliable.

    I'd have given it 4.5 stars if I knew how.

    It is obvious as soon as you get it that it is a high quality product well packaged and made using very good materials. I have also found, in terms of composition, that my Canon 60D when using the live-view screen can "see through it". This is a great boon to composition as it saves you having to remove and re-attach it every time you recompose.

    Overall I am greatly impressed. The only negative is that in terms of colour my images have a bit of a rose hue to them which is easily corrected (if you shoot in raw) or which does not matter if your image is to be mono. If it hadn't been for that I'd have given it 5 stars without hesitation.

    Excellent quality filter, I bought it from Amazon warehouse deals for about £30 reduction in price and the condition was mint so well worth trying them out.
    Had my first try yesterday on a stream in the peak district using an intervalometer which i also bought from the warehouse deals and I am more than happy with the results...
