Product Description

Three US-only late 60s albums from Peter & Gordon. 'Hot Cold & Custard' appeared on Capitol in 1968 and was the duo's last album before disbanding . 'Woman' was their last big hit single on both sides of the Atlantic, written by Paul McCartney under the pseudonym "Bernard Webb". Gordon Waller sadly died in 2009, but Peter Asher nowadays makes intermittent appearances performing and talking about the 1960's. Digitally remastered and slipcased and with new notes.

This is the second release from BGO to compile three rare Peter and Gordon U.S.A. albums. When the previous one came out last year, I rang BGO to suggest they do something similar with these albums and here it is! The biggest draw here is the HCAC album, an original of which is virtually impossible to find. It's a shame the final, non album single " Hard Time Rainy Day" isn't included as this is unavailable on CD and is equally hard to find.
What would now be nice would be for E.M.I. to release a complete multi-disc set as they have done for most of their other sixties acts.

This is a bargain set which contains lots of lovely stuff if you appreciate the Peter & Gordon style. There is some filler on the first 2 albums but the Hot, Cold & Custard set is an absolute psychedelic gem. It has all the ingredients, backwards drums, intricate arrangements, intriguing lyrics and should have been a monster hit if it had been released in 67 rather than 68. It's wonderful if you're into that sort of thing and well worth the cost of the set alone. If you think about it that way you won't worry about the odd duff track on the other albums.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice Re-Issue but...... 8 May 2012

Why are the Woman and the Nashville albums in Mono???? I have both on vinyl in beautiful Stereo, especially the Nashville Album. The Hot Cold & Custard is very well done in wonderful Stereo, the only way it was issued.... but there is no excuse for the Mono release of the other two...when Stereo masters Exist. If you want to get Hot Cold & custard , this set is essential....but hopefully someone will issue the other two in Stereo someday!

4.0 out of 5 stars the last of the P&G albums 28 April 2012

Its nice to finally have the last 2 albums of Peter & Gordon that were awaiting CD release, I say 2 because Woman has already been released by Collectables a few years ago. These are newly digitally remastered, so I'm assuming that Woman is a different remaster than what is on the Collectables CD, but I have not done a A/B test to check. Mainly this was a purchase for Hot Cold & Custard, the Nasvhille hits album is OK. But its nice to finally have a complete P&G album collection, albeit they are the US Stereo albums, they will have to do. Thus release is targeted at collectors that most likely already have the other albums and fans will know what to expect here, some excellent material and some so-so, but even the so-so stuff is elevated by the duo's smooth vocals. My only gripe with this release and the other BGO triple release(Godiva/Knights/Tea) is that I wish the album covers were larger or full page pictures in the booklet, but oh well.

I keep hoping that someone will release the UK albums in mono that are more affordable than the Japanese mini lps or the out of print UK digipaks..looking at you Repertiore or Sundazed. ...

This is a really good album but I didn't rate it a 5 because I like Peter and Gordon singing Rock rather than country.

Completes my collection nicely. I now have all of P & G's US output on digital disc. The insert also provided some interesting history that I wasn't previously aware of.
