Significant parts of the previous games are missing from The Sims 4 - such as the open worlds, create a style and toddlers. Going from an open, endlessly customisable world to a semi-closed, restricted world is pretty major, and not something that can be easily forgiven. The emotions system, which was the main focus of the promotional material, is little more than a gimmick. It doesn't really add anything to the game - emotions are just glorified moodlets with an annoying sound effect. Multitasking is a great development, but it is not enough to excuse the numerous ways that the game is lacking.
The new build and CAS tools are fantastic, and are the only redeeming features of the game. This is the kind of development I expected to see. Shame they didn't bother with the rest of the game.
The most thing I dislike about the game is it's boring. There's nothing to do! I know many people will say that it is boring until the expansion packs come out, but I played The Sims 3 base game for absolute months when I first got it, I played Sims 4 for an hour and got bored of it. And unless they improve it, I plan to stick with Sims 3.
Personal opinion, but I think if you like The Sims 3, you aren't going to like Sims 4.
*Some of the graphics are beautiful, such as the sim and the towns you are in.
*Once you slowly get the hang of it, the interface is really nice and beautiful to use. A lot cleaner.
*The game runs on lower end computers which mine is fairly low end and runs a lot nicer than Sims 3.
*Create A Sim is a little confusing at first but it's really nice to use once you get the hang of it.
*The new build tools are fairly good too. It's easier to build a roof, and you can build pre-built rooms.
*Too many loading screens. This involves crossing the road to another house. You can click on the road and click go here and will walk there, but if you click on a lot to go there, you get a loading screen and when that's over, your Sim is there. Click go home, and you are welcomes by another screen. Also lack of cars mean you get a loading screen if you want to go to a public building.
*No Pools, No Toddlers, No Cars, No Public buildings etc.. The Sims 3 is a little disappointing that you go into a building that you can't see inside to work, however Sims 4, your Sim goes out of the game completely, and you are left staring at your house until him/her comes back home.
I think you have to compare base game to base game, to get a feel for the development of the franchise and to give a fair comparison, and to be fair, there are some good developments. Create a Sim is incredibly easy and user friendly. There's a decent amount of choice for hair styles etc. and you can adjust body parts by clicking on them and dragging them to get it to your desired proportion. The only thing that TS3 had was a colour wheel which allowed so much variety, which has been removed. That's a shame, but it may have been a lot for the game to handle. Similarly, build mode has never been easier. In the bottom left corner if you search by room it gives you a little diagram of a standard room that you've clicked, and you click on the items in it to get the options up. If you're searching for something in-particular, there's a search bar for you to type it in so it crops up. Such a simple yet effective feature. You can also see pre styled set up rooms.Read more ›
There are a few things that I like about the sims 4, though unfortunately the gameplay is not one of them. I like how they communicate, how they make friends etc, I love their new mood system, and the way you can customise them so much that they are unique in every way. This is great, EA keep this, I'm not to keen on their interface, it doesn't seem cluttered anymore, however everything is hiding away that matters, and I found it difficult to find a lot of things. and there edge scrolling doesn't really work, so getting around is hard work.
I ABSOSTLY hate the fact that it's not an open world anymore, this really grinds my gears, as it's a pet hate waiting for loading screens, I really loved going into town to pick their work, and have them wonder around the map, it was far more real then going to different patches of limited venues.
No more toddlers? Why not? They were so much fun, there's no point in having a baby which grows right into a child. It seems there heading backwards rather than forwards with their gameplay.
Loading times are faster and strangely the graphics doesn't eat it as much ram and graphics memory than sims 4, which is a good thing.
I think if they were to pick off the new sims interface and features, add toddlers and then replace it in place of the old interface from the sims 3, the game would be perfect. Imagine how good that would be?
Anyway, i'm going to keep testing out the sims 4 but it is a high possibility I will be sticking to the sims 3 for any serious sim gaming, at least until EA do something about this and make the game worth playing.

Love this game. I really don't care that there are no toddlers which is the common complaint. My only annoyance is all the loading screens but you get used to them after a while.Published 8 months ago by Liz
