Foam? Springs? Why not both?
Tried and tested
We've all got our sleep quirks. So we studied 180 million body profile points from ten million sleepers. We used that research to build 70 prototypes before perfecting our design for a mattress that helps everyone sleep like a dream.
Foam & Springs
The best of both worlds:
British designed and made
We've been in the bed business for over 40 years, starting with a single spool of thread manufactured in Derbyshire in 1979.
The Simba Hybrid Mattress was designed and continues to be made for British sleepers right here in the UK. Plus wherever you are in the world, the springs in your mattress are made from 100% British steel and manufactured in Leeds.
Each layer is uniquely designed to work in harmony with the others - and with you.
Responsive mIQro springs
Our clever cone-shaped springs work together to distribute weight wherever they feel pressure. Offering an even feel that doesn’t affect the shape of the rest of your mattress.
Reflex support layer
Your cloud-like comfort zone needs a supportive springboard — exactly what this foam layer provides.
Edge to edge support
Our Edge Lift technology means no matter where you lie on your mattress you'll feel fully supported.
Five layers of perfect comfort
- Breathable sleep surface
- Airflow comfort laye
- Responsive mIQro springs
- Reflex support layer
- Zoned base layer
The Simba Hybrid difference
Real flex appeal
The patented cone shape of our springs means they hug your body from every direction. For comfort that feels like it’s only interested in you
Lay it cool
From cooling Simbatex right through to a base that lets hot air escape, our five-layer system has been designed for active cooling and maximum airflow. That's something you just won't get from a simple foam stack that will tend to trap heat.
Edge to edge support
Our five layers of perfect comfort are snugly surrounded by a new 360° high density foam border. It gives our mattress the edge - literally.
We call it Edge Lift. It means whether you're an all-night side-hugger or a morning percher, your Simba Hybrid Mattress offers the same great support from one corner to the other. So you can kiss goodnight to that rolling off feeling you get from a cheaper mattress.
Here’s why our Hybrid Mattress is the stuff of dreams
Made for every body
Whether you sleep face down, curled up or sprawled out we're confident the flexible support of our Hybrid Mattress is perfect for 95% of sleepers. And more than 45,000 five star reviews for our Hybrid Original alone suggests we're right.

Google "Simba mattress Guardian" for an article on the Guardian website that sums up the issue, or look at quite a number of the reviews for it on the John Lewis website.
I bought the Simba king size mattress in January 2018 after our old mattress had finally given up. I tried it out in John Lewis so I knew what it felt like in the shop, and it felt good - just the right mix of softness in the top but supportiveness underneath if that makes sense. I also looked at all the online reviews which generally were very positive, and bought it through Amazon.
It was delivered quickly, and at first was great, just like it had been in the shop, and a big improvement on the mattress it was replacing. I can't say I slept extra hours on it, but it wasn't giving me aches and pains as the old mattress had.
As we got near the end of the 100 day initial trial period I was starting to have doubts about it, but I thought it was just a case of getting used to a new bed after 10 years on the old one. There wasn't anything I could really put my finger on but I wasn't sleeping fantastically on it, but I decided to keep going with it and thought I would get used to it.
As it turned out, it got worse with time, not better. The issue was the mattress - I don't know whether it was the foam, the springs or both - was going soft. The result was it wasn't supporting my hips, which were sinking into it in the night, meaning my lower back was out of alignment. I have never had long-term back pain before sleeping on the Simba, but I did then.
We were rotating the mattress as advised by Simba. I am bigger and heavier than my wife, but at 15 stone I am well under Simba's maximum weight under its guarantee (18 or 19 stone I seem to recall). With the mattress being rotated, two soft areas developed where I slept - top left and bottom right, where my torso was lying at each rotation. there was a ridge down the middle where neither of us were sleeping, and firmness around the edges, again where nobody was sleeping and putting pressure on it.
By the summer, with the mattress about 6 months old, I was sleeping terribly and had a permanent back ache. By the winter I gave up and tried to return it under its guarantee, because no mattress should go soft that quickly.
I was impressed by Simba at that point, because they asked me to send photos of the mattress to show the problem. I did, with photos of objects on the mattress sinking in where the soft parts were and not sinking so much where it was still good. They agreed an exchange under the guarantee.
The new one arrived, and again it started out well, but again rapidly developed soft areas where I was sleeping and putting the most weight on it. Again I was sleeping worse and worse, and again I got the back ache.
We tried to return it again, but this time Simba sent out their inspector to report on it. He found the mattress to be "within tolerances" and so now Simba won't accept a return.
So there are a few things we can conclude:
1. I have owned two Simbas, and both have gone soft very quickly, with a ridge down the middle, and giving me bad sleep and back pain.
2. A lot of the reviews that are left are positive, but a lot of those are left just a short time after owning a Simba. A lot of those left after a longer period of time are much more negative, suggesting the Simba starts well but does not last.
3. According to Simba, this is within tolerances. In other words, they are supposed to be like this!
Simba won't accept their mattress isn't up to standard, which is hugely disappointing. We have now bought a different mattress from someone else. We now sleep fine.
Delivery went okay, but note UPS only deliver to the front door and it’s a two person job to get it upstairs, unless you’re very strong!
Left the mattress to self inflate and settle - no issues.
The first night sleep was reasonable, but warm. We noticed after a few nights that whilst there was no visible dip where we had been sleeping, the mattress had begun to sink slightly to to match our shapes.
After about a month, we decided that the mattress was too warm and too firm for us and we had a little concern about the indentations that we experienced.
We requested to return the mattress through the normal Amazon returns process, this led us to a message asking us to complete an electronic form, which we did. We then received a date and time for collection and promptly received a refund.
Whilst the mattress wasn’t for us, the quality seemed good and the service was great. If you are thinking of trying but not sure, you can have confidence in the 100 day trial - there were no quibbles at all.
Not anymore! After my mattress arrived I let it expand over night. It didn't have any odd smell. The next day I placed it on my bed and had a lie down. It's heavenly! When I pushed down with my hand I was a little hesitant because it felt soft. But as soon as you lie down you'll feel supported in all the right places.
I don't feel hot and sweaty when I sleep on my Simba. I don't sink in either and it responds very fast to any change in position. No more waiting for bumps to even themselves out.
I wake up less stiff and achy and since sleeping on it I don't wake up every hour to change position. It just happens naturally while I'm sleeping. Bliss!
My only regret: Not buying one sooner.
Thank you Simba!
