Unfortunately, the tool turned out to be almost useless, for various quality issues... Although the tool is actually _very_ sturdy and apparently made with heavy and durable materials, it has some clear design/manufacturing issues:
The base, although rather heavy, has a way too small footprint, compared to the huge magnifier and the pole/clips structure, which are also extremely heavy. Therefore, there is a high risk of toppling over the entire contraption, especially if you are going to put some heavier items between the clips.
Most importantly, the screws that keep in place _all_ the arms and the magnifier _cannot_ be tightened enough to keep every piece in its place properly, even applying a lot of torque to tighten them, since there is clearly some manufacturing defect. Therefore, it is almost impossible to keep the arms in their place, and even the magnifier tends to bend down easily.
Finally, even the solder "cage" cannot be fixed properly with its very small screw, which is extremely dangerous while soldering, since the base is so small, and the cage is very near to the arms, so there is even the risk of getting burned while soldering, IMHO...Read more ›
So, was I delighted or disappointed?
Well, a bit of both, really...
Unlike some reviewers, I have no quibbles with the stability (but, then, I turn the clips to face the back, and have the magnifying glass over the sponge - yes, I did get one in my box - with the clamp upside-down, which evens out the weight distribution well enough for me...
However, the screw for the soldering-iron holder won't screw in well enough to come anywhere near the stem of the holder itself, let alone think of starting to tighten it down (some loosening and tightening, as if tapping a new thread, is called for, I think). And the 'silky' nature of the metal doesn't really allow anything to grip tightly enough to stay for long - but that may become less of a problem with age and use.
All-in-all then, it deserves a 3.7 / 3.8, being let down by the points above, but being saved by the value (4.69 with the VAT at 17.5%, possibly becoming 4.78/9 at 20% VAT), and I'd recommend it, but warn you not to expect too much of it.
But hell, it's cheaper than a single magnifying glass costs in a store. If you occasionally need to solder something tricky and you want to hold it in front of magnifying glass, this will do it. IF you need some proffeshional equipment, you probably know it.

Arms seem to be in the wrong position / length / angle and provides no flexibility to adjust for this. Really needs a re-design.Published 7 hours ago by Sci-Fi Si
Not bad for £6 but along with many other reviewers, the lens was scratched which seems to be a packaging problem that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer.Published 7 days ago by Mrs. P. Maud
