Product Description

Silver Silver is LA-based singer-songwriter Simone White's most affecting and ambitious album yet. Silver Silver has White's soft voice framed by complex arrangements: there are pulsing, speaker-rattling bass tones, delicately layered vocal harmonies, and exquisitely lush washes of sound. It is also the singer's most personal record to date: 'A lot of stuff happened during the production. Two deaths, a breakup… fell in love.' The record features guest spots from Andrew Bird, Thao, and Victoria Williams and for the first time mixes songs with instrumental segues and textures — including a manipulated field recording of neighbourhood street sounds.

By The Wolf TOP 50 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 24 July 2012
Format: Audio CD
Sometimes Simone White's songs and voice are so fragile, so ephemeral,
that the wind might blow right through them. There is real beauty here.
Her last album 'Yakiimo' (2009) was a box of delights and the new release
'Silver Silver' shows no sign of flagging in both quality and imagination.

There are thirteen numbers in the set which includes two brief instrumental
interludes : the moody and mysterious 'We Didn't Know' and the magical 'Frogs'.
Of the songs 'Star' is an especial highlight; a simple but enchanting lullaby
sung over a strummed guitar and accordion accompaniment, followed closely by
the delightful 'Never Be That Tough'; an composition to warm the coldest heart.
Andrew Bird duets splendidly with Ms White on the title track 'Silver Silver';
an extended folksy arrangement decorated with plaintive violin and the staccato
rhythms of 'What The Devil Brings' delivers a little darkness to the proceedings.

For my money, however, 'In The Water Where The City Ends' takes the prize for
top track. The hypnotic martial beats and haunting vocals cast a spell which
carries us along like a fallen leaf in its wake. An intoxicating invention.

All-in-all there is little here not to love.

Highly Recommended.
