This book grabbed me right from the start... The instant draw between Amber and Craig had me hooked!
I empathised with Amber - after all, who hasn't had their heart broken? She's sweet, if a little naive, and I found myself wanting things to work out for her but she's understandably afraid to open her heart again.
Craig is super hot. He's got some great alpha tendencies and although he's harbouring a secret, and a few of his own demons, I couldn't help but will him to put his trust in Amber.
As always, secrets will come out eventually, with dire consequences.
Will they find their silver lining?
Without spoiling the book before you've read it, I'll end by saying you won't regret reading this and I'll certainly be looking forward to the second book!
Amber is starting again after her boyfriend of ten years dumps her. First night out she meets Craig. Insta love follows. Amber changes her mind so often and has several screeching tantrums and sulks that didn't really endear her to me or ring true for a woman in her late twenties. Meanwhile Craig has a secret and regularly blows cold whenever she gets closer to him. There was a huge build up and fall out from his 'secret' but I never really got why he kept it secret in the first place when the secrecy itself was more damaging. I guess Craig needed something to make him a little more interesting but it didn't make sense to me.
It's a complete story, although there's a second book available. I didn't love this one, but each to their own I suppose.
I love it when I open a book and the first two chapters at least pull me in and invite me to read more, this book did very early on in my reading.
Here we have a young woman, heart broken, she is now trying to move on with her life.
She moves out of the home she had with her partner to a home of her own. Its difficult, and its also difficult for her to unpack! as her best buddy doesn't want her moping about, so she's encouraging her to go to a club on the evening, much to her not wanting to go and wanting to get unpacked and get used to her being alone now, she can't get out of it, so she goes.
The we have that chance look across the room. She's just broken up with her partner but there is someone in the room who is drawing her attention like a magnet. She's never reacted like this before, so she's aware that she doesn't need this in her life at the moment, she is totally off men!
The story progresses. I found it entertaining, heart warming and truly a well put together read that kept me wanting to turn page after page.
I would like to than the author for allowing me to read and review this book. I probably would have missed out on this if not brought to my attention, which would have been my downfall as I loved this read.
As a leading character, Amber is one of the best I've read in a while. I loved how her situation and her feelings about the things she went through felt very real. Her insecurities were real, without her coming across as whiny and weak.
And Craig... well, well. He was an absolute dream, and while I guessed his secret early on, I enjoyed the way it unfolded and loved how he calmed down from the "playboy" to every woman's ideal man under Amber's influence.
Very enjoyable read!
I loved Shortall's use of English colloquialisms -as a fellow Brit I love seeing the word 'arse' in a novel instead adopting the more universally adopted 'ass'! Also Shortall's witty English humour had me peeing myself with laughter!
This is the most heartwarming series i have read this year so far! Do not miss out on this beautiful series! It is an absolute pleasure to read!
WARNING!: after reading this series you will fall into a book coma where you cannot possibly pick up another book for at least 24 hours due instead you must bask in the perfection that is this book!
