Joel Carpenter has moved from Scotland to Victoria, Canada to become a recluse. Since his rise to literary stardom, he has become paranoid after many unscrupulous business and personal relationships. Right now he is dealing with writer’s block, his characters are refusing to follow his direction, and his tenant is having trouble coming up with rent on time.
Christy Taylor is an artist who has set up a small art shop, The Wandering Mind Studio, in the front of her rental property. She is a divorcee with a four-year-old daughter who suffers Type-One Diabetes. She refuses to bow to the adversity of this disease and works hard to raise a happy, well-adjusted child. Jill is a vivacious, cheerful, and active child. Christy has hired an elderly neighbor to sit with Jill while she is working or running errands.
I had a hard time connecting with or liking Joel; he is angry, arrogant, and overbearing to a fault. He lashes out at Christy at inappropriate times repeatedly. It angered me when he kissed her after yelling at her. Here is a quote as he muses about their relationship after he decides he might just like Christy. It sums him up pretty well:
“Living with Christy wouldn’t be easy, she would keep him on his toes each and every day—he pictured her rosy red lips and delectable body pressed close to his—but it would be worth the battle.”
Not very romantic if you ask me. Unfortunately, Christy is smitten with his good looks and I’m afraid her lust is coloring her good senses. Perhaps if the transformation in Joel had been accomplished through dialogue and not narration, I would feel differently? Or perhaps I wasn’t the right reader for this story? Unfortunately, that happens at times.
I came across one word that may be considered borderline offensive to some. Honestly, it made me giggle. The editing was excellent in this novella, nothing at all jumped out at me. Nice job, Ms. Biggars. **Originally written for "BigAl’s Books and Pals" book blog. May have received a free review copy.** November 14, 2016

The last thing Joel wants or needs is romance. He’s a bestselling mystery author and he’s under a tight deadline. Plus, the women he’s met lately only want him for his money, moniker, expensive gifts, etc. Everyone wants something, or so Joel thought… until he meets Christy.
Christy has got a full plate: single mom trying to make it a go of it with her art and her diabetic daughter in Vancouver Island. But money is tight and when the landlord comes around the gallery demanding rent, sparks fly between her and Joel. Can she let her guard down to let him in or is he just like her ex and will abandon her when he meets Jill (her daughter)?
I’m a big fan of Biggar and have gobbled up everything she’s written but this story moved me to tears. There’s so much emotion in this little romantic story while dealing with not only the holidays but serious topics like childhood diabetes. Biggar describes perfectly the fear every parent deals with raising a diabetic child (Christy) while at the same time, capturing what the child goes through every single day (Jill).
If you’re a fan of romance and looking for a quick holiday romance, 1-click this book right now. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll be inspired. A must read, in my opinion!
Favorite Character: I instantly connected with Christy. As a single mum and an artist struggling with making ends meet, my heart went out to her. I know quite a few friends like Christy and I wanted to wrap my arms around her.
Favorite Quote:
“Lead with your heart, child. That’s all you can do.”
My Rating: 5+ stars

A sweet romance set around Christmas.
Christy is a single mum and an artist, she combines caring for her daughter and trying to run a business. Her daughter has a serious form of Diabetes and this means she is constantly on a balancing act. She has some help from a retired lady who understands her daughter's condition and helps her care for her daughter.
Joel is on a writing deadline and needs to get his book written soon, while taking some time out he spots a woman watching him and doesn't react well - this is their first meeting, not the best of starts!
Christy and Joel make a cute couple with Jill (the daughter) added into the story. With likeable characthers and Christmas nearing in the story it makes an enjoyable short read, its only 60 pages but will leave you with a smile on your face.
3.5 stars

This is my first book by Jacquie Biggar and it was a sweet clean romance, being a short novella you certainly got the whole story though I would love to know more back story on the characters.
Christy has her hands full, looking after her diabetic daughter and struggling with keeping her business afloat so the last thing she needs is a landlord from hell.
Joel is a writer and pretty much not a people person, when he has a run in with a woman on the beach for drawing his picture, little did he know she was his tenant or that she was about to change his world!
This sweet and and Joel was frustrating at times but it was such a good little story to want your heart for this xmas season.

This story is a story of cat and mouse between the two characters until the end and leaves you guessing at each turn of the page what will happen next.
Although it's got the name silver bells there isn't much to do with Christmas except for the mention of the song silver bells and Christmas coming soon a few times so it's not your usual Christmas holiday read but it's still a nice little read that passes the time.
