I thought this book was totally unsuitable for young children! The idea of jumping out and shouting 'boo' to old ladies is awful, and as for picking up dog poo - this is appalling! The number of diseases that can be caught from dog faeces is horrendous. I know it is only a story but children copy things they see and hear around them. I have sent the copy of the book I purchased for my grand daughters back to the author!

My kids love the 'silly satsuma'!
Every time we see a satsuma now they laugh!
It's now a game we play, we even take a satsuma( or an orange, depending on the time of year, other fruits are available) with us on long car journeys.
Who knows what that crazy fruit will do next!!!!
On a serious note both this and the sprout book have encouraged our children's imaginations immensely. All fruit and veg have a personality now thanks to this book and the kids now get more then their 5 a day!
Thanks Allan Plenderleith, your amazing, keep them coming.......awesome apple, maybe???????

I bought this book for my almost 4 yr old. She's a little young to completely understand it but we had lots of giggles as we read this together. A very funny little story which would be enjoyable for young and old alike. Lovely little illustrations which held my daughter's attention (particularly the pile of dog poop!!). Thoroughly recommended for an alternative festive read :-)

A funny and cute book with Eric the "naughty" boy befriending a Satsuma. Hilarious situations he finds himself in are brilliantly written. A must have book for children of all ages. My children 4/5 and 10 all enjoyed this fab book. Must buy.

The book was interesting and entertaining and was a fun read. We all loved it. The satsuma and Eric were funny and the magic that the satsuma did was very interesting. At least Eric learned his lesson at the end!

We have all of Allan Plenderleith's books and have enjoyed them all immensely. The Silly Satsuma is another classic with elements of a Christmas Carol only with a funny fruit character and lots more laughs. The little boy Eric is shown what it feels like to have other people be horrid to you and the ending is so sweet it brings a lump to your throat. This is a favourite with our children (boy 6 and girl 4) and had them laughing out loud. The hardback edition is a great stocking filler and I'll be buying several this year. I cant wait to see what Mr Plenderleith comes up with next!

Had my class rolling around in fits of giggles after borrowing it from a colleague.....so funny but with some great discussion points on the importance of being a good little boy or girl. I am buying it all for my teacher friends and giving it to them early so they can share it with their class. Hope it's not long before the app is out pleeeease....the interactive smelly sprout app is genius and my daughter loves it....still laugh every time I hear the Kenneth Williams-esk snowman!

My daughter (6) laughed at this but I thought it was a bit dirty (throwing poo into girls hair). The sprout one is so brilliant and we read it all through the year. I'll try the carrot one next Christmas.
