First things first, I'm a guy, I have tried books by other women authors (authoress's?) and had mixed feeling about them, there is no reason why they can't write stuff that I like to read, not the J K Rowling Harry Potter stuff, that's not my thing at all. So when my latest e-mail from Amazon arrived, special offers and recommended for you, that type of thing, The Silent Wife was there, so I checked out some of the reviews and found that most people seemed to quite like the book, and the author, although up to that point I had never heard of her. I have now, and I am going to join the chorus of people who enjoyed this book, not only enjoyed, but a book that had me reading until the early hours of the morning as I didn't want to stop reading although I knew I needed some sleep. A story of 2 women, totally different but marrying into the same Italian family, the two husbands, were like the women, very different. I don't need to go into detail as that had already been done in other reviews, but we follow the lives of the 2 women, and their Italian husbands, throw in a typical Italian mother, and in one case the brothers second marriage, the first wife died, so the complication of his new English wife and her son, gelling with an Italian man with a daughter.

The 2 brothers were chalk and cheese, one athletic and outgoing, the other has a garden centre business and is rather gentle and not sporty, and so here we have the main characters Massimo and Lara, Nico and Maggie the second wife, but throw in Anna, the Italian mother, and Beryl, fiercely protective of her daugher Maggie as she enters the Farinelli family, where everything is overshaddowed by the death of Nico's first wife Caitlin. We follow the lives of Maggie and Lara, worlds appart it seems, but are they?

Absolutely loved this story. A real mixed family bag of characters. Wasn't sure where it would all lead, but all the threads pulled together and the ending was superb. Loved Beryl, a great character with far more empathy than snooty Anna. Look forward to more stories by Kerry Fisher.

After just the first page, I was hooked.
The characters are so wonderfully real and although the physical descriptions of them are subtle, you feel as though you can see and know them.
Beautifully written by a talented author who was able to make me discard everything else that was on my to-do list, until I had finished the book.
And finish it she did, everything was wrapped up neatly, with no loose ends.
I will certainly seek out Kerry Fisher books again.

I absolutely adored this book. A beautifully written, warm, witty and utterly gripping family drama, telling the story of two very different women married to very different brothers - Kerry Fisher has really come into her own. The characters are all believable and given enough space to develop - I particularly loved the mothers-in-law Beryl and Anna; sublime! Fisher tempers any sentimentality by her sense of the ridiculous and acid tongue. Just wonderful. I recommend this very highly.

Wow, having just finished The Silent Wife I’m still half lost in it, caught up in the wonderful story and world of the characters. What a book it is! Gripping, moving, beautifully written - I couldn’t have loved it more.

One of the aspects I enjoyed most was the complexities of the relationships. I was so drawn in by Maggie’s difficulties as she marries the man she loves, Nico, but then has to live in the house he shared with his dead wife, caring for his grieving daughter - and, of course, the battle she has when she discovers that awful secret from the past and knows that its coming out could destroy her new family. I thought Maggie a wonderful character – really strong, often conflicted, but warm and genuine. Her sister-in-law, Lara is such an interesting person too, trying to do the best by her son who she adores, but struggling in her oh-so-perfect marriage to the charismatic, handsome Massimo. And oh, Massimo – I don’t want to risk a spoiler, but my word, he had me turning the pages.

This is a fabulous, heart-wrenching read from beginning to end. Anyone who enjoys brilliant writing, a gripping plot, and a great cast of characters to draw you in, will love it. I thoroughly recommend!

Was previously called Secrets of Second Wives which I do prefer to Silent Wife. That is the only negative thing I have to say about the book.

Absolutely loved this book! Welcome to the Farinelli family, a story of 2 Italian brothers; Nico & Massimo and their second wives. It's about family, loyalty and ultimately betrayal. This is a story of secrets, abusive relationships, the two second wives developing their relationship to start to trust one another and reveal confidences which lead to dramatic events.

This is a story where lies are perpetuated and maintained to keep the family together but at what cost? What will happen when all is revealed and there’s nothing to hide behind any more? It is a very moving story filled with deception, betrayal and, contrastingly, loyalty, love, caring and forgiveness. Overall, this is about a dysfunctional family and it has a brilliant ending!
