The 2 brothers were chalk and cheese, one athletic and outgoing, the other has a garden centre business and is rather gentle and not sporty, and so here we have the main characters Massimo and Lara, Nico and Maggie the second wife, but throw in Anna, the Italian mother, and Beryl, fiercely protective of her daugher Maggie as she enters the Farinelli family, where everything is overshaddowed by the death of Nico's first wife Caitlin. We follow the lives of Maggie and Lara, worlds appart it seems, but are they?Read more ›
The characters are so wonderfully real and although the physical descriptions of them are subtle, you feel as though you can see and know them.
Beautifully written by a talented author who was able to make me discard everything else that was on my to-do list, until I had finished the book.
And finish it she did, everything was wrapped up neatly, with no loose ends.
I will certainly seek out Kerry Fisher books again.
One of the aspects I enjoyed most was the complexities of the relationships. I was so drawn in by Maggie’s difficulties as she marries the man she loves, Nico, but then has to live in the house he shared with his dead wife, caring for his grieving daughter - and, of course, the battle she has when she discovers that awful secret from the past and knows that its coming out could destroy her new family. I thought Maggie a wonderful character – really strong, often conflicted, but warm and genuine. Her sister-in-law, Lara is such an interesting person too, trying to do the best by her son who she adores, but struggling in her oh-so-perfect marriage to the charismatic, handsome Massimo. And oh, Massimo – I don’t want to risk a spoiler, but my word, he had me turning the pages.
This is a fabulous, heart-wrenching read from beginning to end. Anyone who enjoys brilliant writing, a gripping plot, and a great cast of characters to draw you in, will love it. I thoroughly recommend!
Absolutely loved this book! Welcome to the Farinelli family, a story of 2 Italian brothers; Nico & Massimo and their second wives. It's about family, loyalty and ultimately betrayal. This is a story of secrets, abusive relationships, the two second wives developing their relationship to start to trust one another and reveal confidences which lead to dramatic events.
This is a story where lies are perpetuated and maintained to keep the family together but at what cost? What will happen when all is revealed and there’s nothing to hide behind any more? It is a very moving story filled with deception, betrayal and, contrastingly, loyalty, love, caring and forgiveness. Overall, this is about a dysfunctional family and it has a brilliant ending!

Not a great read, a slow family saga with no energy. The characterisation of Maggie and Massimo was good, but the other characters lacked interest and depth. Read morePublished 15 hours ago by Claire, Leeds.
This is my first Kerry Fisher book , but I am happy to say it won't be the last. It was not my usual style of fiction, but a very good read. I enjoyed every page.Published 16 hours ago by Dale
Not quite as dramatic as was advertised! A nice little story however. Well thought out and probably true to too many lives.Published 21 hours ago by S. E. Huxford
