Review

I loved everything about this book and I really cannot recommend it enough (The Bookbag)

She has a real gift for storytelling...the story is focused and compelling, with more than enough twists and turns to keep the plot skimming along at high speed... (Jaffa Reads Too Book Blog)

In a story brimming with action, pace, mystery and spine-tingling tension, the undoubted star is the delectable DI Kim Stone... clever, neatly joined plotting, electrifying twists and tensions, and brilliant characterisation, Silent Scream heralds a dynamic start to a gripping new crime series (The Lancashire Evening Post)

Silent Scream gets 5 stars from me - if you finish a crime thriller feeling like you just need to have a lie-down and a cup of tea to get your breath back, then the writer has done their job. Angela Marsons, I still don't have my breath back (Reading Room with a View Book Blog)

· Well worth reading, with a good twist at the end. I almost got 'who dun it' but not quite. Clever (frostmagazine.com)

Absolutely brilliant entertainment, I can give it no higher accolade (Breakaway Reviewers)

I'm so glad I finally got around to reading this book. I thoroughly enjoyed every page and I'm thrilled to have discovered Angela Marsons. How exciting to think I've got all her other books still to read. (Ampersand Book Reviews)

I couldn't get enough of this brilliant plot-twisting whodunnit story...this tale takes you by the scruff of the neck and doesn't let go until the very last full stop (Irish Sunday Independent)

I bought this for my kindle app as I saw lots of gold shiny stars and it was cheap. It was incredible. I started one evening and finished the following morning. I could not stop. The beliveability, characterisations and plot were excellent. I enjoyed the narrative and the changes in style when the killer was 'writing'. I'm hooked. I will be reading the remainder of this series no matter what the cost. Realism, no gimmicks, warm, humourous, sickening, terrifying, gripping.

A very gifted and engaging writer, who has made me want to seek out all avenues to shout out about how good it was. Hence this review. I am telling anybody I meet to read it. Please, please, please release the next story ASAP.

Read it when you can ensure there are enough hours left in the day to complete it.

Really, really, really, really good.

By S Riaz HALL OF FAMETOP 100 REVIEWERVINE VOICE on 20 Feb. 2015
Format: Kindle Edition
This great crime debut novel begins with five people burying a body in 2004. We then cut to the present day and the murder of Teresa Wyatt, a successful and respected headmistress. DCI Kim Stone is in charge of the investigation and it soon becomes apparent that what happened in 2004 is coming back to haunt the people involved. Teresa Wyatt used to work in a children's home and an archaeological dig had recently approved nearby. Now, all the staff, who used to work there, are in danger and Stone has to uncover the secrets of their past. With one previous staff member a local politician, and the press extremely interested in the case, Stone finds herself under pressure from her boss, DCI Woodward, not to tread on too many toes. That is something that does not come naturally to Stone, who is not known for her tact and diplomacy.

I really enjoyed this fast paced novel. DCI Stone is a great central character. Known to be cold and efficient, she was also a product of the care system, and her past gives her great insight to the case. Along with her team; Detective Sergeant Bryant, DS Kevin Dawson and Detective Constable Stacey Wood, she is utterly dedicated to solving the case. Her lack of a private life in some ways is a relief - yes, she has her demons, but her work ethic allowed her - and allows the readers - to concentrate on the case itself and not get mired down with too many side plots. I really hope that we see DCI Stone in further novels and think this would make an excellent series. A very promising debut indeed and highly recommended to crime fans. Lastly, I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, for review.

As an avid reader of crime novels, I am forever searching for new authors & titles. However, I am afraid I am very fussy & it is not easy to find ones which meet my stringent requirements: A) They must be British B) They must be well-written without glaring grammatical errors, (although, as I read this on Kindle, there were the usual typos!) C) They must have a central character who is believeable but interesting D) The story-line must be plausible but thrilling. "Silent Scream" ticked all my boxes & more! (The "more" being a big "feel good" factor which is not at all cloying) I am absolutely delighted to learn that the author has signed a 4- book deal with the publishers, so there will be another 3 D.I. Kim Stone books to look forward to. This author joins my list of all-time favourites which include Colin Dexter, P.D. James, Deborah Crombie, Mark Billington, Peter Robinson etc. Very highly recommended!

I am really torn about this book. It was chugging along pretty well as a straightforward but nicely managed thriller set - unusually, let's be honest - in the Black Country with some nice local colour. But around half way through it started to get deeply unpleasant, and in the last quarter or so it went rapidly downhill. Even in the first half there were some unsettling elements, especially the unconvincing depiction of the detective team, the stereotypes (esp. Tory MP = corrupt monster married to ruthless hot shot barrister), and the lacklustre dialogue. But the revelations were well handled and there were some nice frissons. Then the author seemed to lose her nerve, piling on the horrors as if she was afraid of losing her readers' attention. After the big reveal of who the murderer was (which did take me by surprise though it shouldn't have done), there was still a lot of text and frankly it became irritatingly unrealistic and sentimental.
I thought the author has talent and would be willing to read another thriller by her but she needs to find her voice and tone down the unpleasantness.
Having said that, there are enough rave reviews here to indicate that other people are perfectly happy with the way she writes so maybe she should just carry on as she is.

Silent Scream was published a week ago and has been a number one Amazon bestseller since then. And now that I have read it I totally understand it. It had been a while since a crime novel had captured me so much, reading for hours without even realising, devouring every page with my heart on my mouth. All I can say is congratulationss Angela, you've created a work of art.

D.I. Kim Stone is a force to be reckoned with. Her tireless search for the truth was admirable and made me feel as invested as her in the case. Her team, especially Bryant, added the perfect spark to this dark story. Their loyalty to Kim, who was not a bit fan of rules and liked to make things her own way, was admirable and they all worked together as a Swiss watch to unmask the murderer.

Through the story, the corpses keept appearing and I could not help trying to guess what kind of heartless bastard was behind all this. But in truth, the story totally took me by surprise. My suspicious were completely wrong and I was blown away by the ending.

I found it very clever that some of the chapters were told from the murderer's point of view. Being inside their mind actually gave me shivers and it demonstrates Angela's talent with words, how she can achieve so many emotions in so little pages. I am already looking forward to her new book, who will be all about Kim Stone and her team again. I cannot tell you how excited I am about this fact.

I highly recommend Silent Scream to all crime lovers but also to non-lovers as I am sure that this story will capture you all. It will certainly be one of my top reads of the year.
