When Sarah wakes up in hospital, she doesn't know how she got there or who she is, all she has is a feeling that she has a child. Enter, Jake Sanders who says he knows exactly who she is. She is the mother of his daughter and was his fiance until she ran off with their toddler seven months earlier and dissapeared into no where. Now their child is missing and they join forces to find her despite the fact that Sarah can remember nothing. Then she begins to get flashes of memory and has two attempts made on her life, Jake begins to realize that Sarah is not the person she has claimed to be and has been telling him lies the two years he has lived with her,He's mad as hell, but he is determined to find their daugher and keep Sarah alive. This is the first Barbara Freethy novel I have read and I enjoyed it very much. The plot twists and turns as more information about Sarah unravels and you find you can not put the book down until you find out the answer about who wants her dead and why.

DNF 33% - it just didn't hold my attention. I did read the end to see what happened and it was rather predictable.

NOT A BAD BOOK - but unfortunately the principle characters were rather meh and the plot had far too many holes.

The suspense/ mystery part was ok but unrealistic. The romance - then it was far too formulaic (as a few reviewers pointed out).

There were so many instances that didn't make sense or weren't thought through. If you're not bothered about the suspense/crime aspect to the book then it won't bother you, but examples:

1. The police response to the heroine's amnesia and missing child was completely off. I won't give too much away but the police would be far more through with their database, and as it crosses States perhaps even involve the FBI database.

2. A random man enters the heroine's hospital room and no one checks the CCTV cameras in the corridors?

3. The Doctors speak to the ex boyfriend regarding her diagnoses - what happened to patient confidentiality?

4. The heroine could have been running from a domestic violence situation (she has amnesia so she won't know). The police don't ideally allow the ex-boyfriend private time with the patient.

Loads more but I can't be bothered to list them.

==================

I also had problems with the characters.

Heroine: rather dull. She's a pretty blonde blue-eyed former waitress who falls in love and has a baby. Other than being on the run (from something related to her past) there isn't anything else interesting about her. She's like a tired and used up dish cloth.

Hero: he's a nice guy but again very formulaic, tall, dark handsome well-to-do architect who likes to take care of people.

Quite a good read. More for a holiday than the usual type of book i would normally read. Quite predictable in places but that could be me as read so many that sometimes other books of the same topic give you clues what is going to happen. Think most people will enjoy it but not one to get your teeth into as i say a bit predictable.

I really enjoyed this book.

From the beginning it was tense and exciting. Other than the fact that the main character had amnesia and people were trying to kill her, I did not have any idea how the plot would unfold, so everything about it for me was unexpected. Most novels have a "happy ending" or the main character is like Superman or Superwoman and somehow survives against all the odds and the bad guy(s) get their come uppance! This book for the most part goes against that. I won't reveal the ending but you just have to read it and decide for yourself.

Very well written and I noticed that we even find out where the stash of cash came from.

A gripping story with very vivid characters. I read this until 2:30am because I couldn't put it down! However, the ending was abrupt and unsatisfactory. It had been set up very well, but the conclusion itself was rushed.
SPOILER ALERT: Don't read any further in this review if you don't want spoilers!
The villain is so clever and evil that he can track Sarah across the USA and almost kill her numerous times, but then drops his gun because of a struggling toddler, and Jake's brother happens to arrive at exactly the right time. And Jake, who has spent the entire novel insisting that Sarah's web of deceit means that he thinks they probably cannot reconstruct their family just suddenly forgives her with no explanation from the author as to how Jake changes his mind. A poor ending slightly spoiled what, until then, had been a really good read. I would read this again though. I found the idea of complete amnesia of self really interesting. I'd like to read the second one in this series or any of her other mystery books.
