When people mention Chuck Norris movies there is a certain inevitability that people will laugh it off and not take Norris films so seriously. The guy has history but this 1982 monster of a movie should be on your list.

Where do I start? Well imagine rolling Re Animator, The Terminator, Halloween, Police Story, a pinch of humour and Chuck Norris into one. Viola you have my friends Silent Rage.

The beauty of this film is that it twists from genre to genre and back again with a flair and ease and doesn't miss a beat. Sure there are some memorable 'Chuck' moments but in truth the film isn't completely about his character. Let's just say that I have never jumped or felt genuine tension whilst watching a movie starring Chuck Norris. The movie has been directed well, and also stars the late great Ron Silver. What a fine actor.

Great movie.

so the indiestrucable killer idea has been overused since this film came out but this was one of the first of these kinds of films.
it isnt the worlds greatest film but chuck norris fans wil love ths one the violnce is pretty strong in places.
theres a great fight sequence were norris takes out a whole team of hells angels in a bar well worth the price of the dvd.
not a bad action film could have been better if given a higher budget and theres no extras but hell this is a chuck norris film and you buy it for his martial arts skills only.

As my title said it, a lot of Chuck Norris haters will treat this like another B grade movie. I won't say it is an A grade movie but, its a definite "cult" which concept I think was copied by various greats like the first Terminator, the slasher movies and The Hidden. Remember when the we all thought the villain in the movies I mentioned were dead, killed by the heroes! Then suddenly the just spring back to life! Well, this is the movie that started it all! And to great effect too! Chuck Norris is not bad here and the psycho is well characterised by the actor. For all you cult lovers out there, this is one for you!

Chuck Norris does slasher movie at the arguable peak of that genre and a minor classic is made. Brian Libby plays the unbalanced John Kirby, who finally snaps one day and starts a killing spree. The local police show up, including Chuck as Sheriff Dan Stevens, and Kirby is shot but not killed. Taken to a local hospital, which coincidentally also houses a cutting-edge experimental genetic engineering department working on a cure for pretty much everything, Kirby intrigues the head doctor after having been shotgunned during his arrest but surviving, and after a treatment he is turned into an unstoppable but now mute killing machine. Stevens is told by the chief doctor Kirby is dead and everyone goes back to mostly normal. It's not long before Kirby is out and continuing his murderous rampage, targeting questioning doctor Ron Silver and his girlfriend for a start.

At the same time all this is going on, Chuck spends time romancing his ex-girlfriend (trivia: to a genuinely terrible song performed by Katey Sagal, later of Married With Children and Sons of Anarchy fame), spending time with his bizarrely awful deputy played by Stephen Furst, and beating up a bar full of bikers (it is a Norris film after all, and the bar fight is a non-negotiable part of his oeuvre). Eventually Chuck figures out what's up and a final confrontation between mute murderer and Sheriff Norris is set. If this seems like it's a hybrid of action film and slasher movie, that's because it is. Strangely though it does both quite well. Director Michael Miller puts his low budget and short shooting schedule to good use, there's a number of ambitious sequences of both action and suspense, and outside of a listless mid-section, it holds the attention very well. Norris is his usual warmly wooden self, Furst doesn't grate too much as the comic relief, Libby makes good use of his screen time, and Silver brings his brand of class to proceedings. An interesting experiment, it comes highly recommended.

This is a really great Chuck film that all his fans need a copy of. It's got plenty of action and plenty of intentional laughs like the entire behaviour of his partner and the first scene involving his former girlfriend. He basically had to stop a mad man from terrorising a town and in the meantime there is plenty of action at break-neck pace. It's also actually interesting to note it is kind of like a thriller for Chuck and the antagonist does not share one thing in common with other serial killers; he doesn't have a conscience. I'm sure this was intentional and it's a shame this film doesn't have a more cult status. My friend who is a die-hard fan thinks this film is pointless. Don't listen to him(me). Buy it, it's way beyond awesome with its also I forgot to mention quite impressive and elaborate driving stunts. Buy. Buy. BUY!
