Top customer reviews
I sold the Nikon, and bought a bottle of whiskey with the change.
Beautiful bokeh compared to canon f1.8
excellent build quality
weight (much heavier than canon f.18)
slower AF speed than canon f1.8
In overall I feel that the price difference between the sigma and canon f1.8 worth it and that the sigma offeres a great balance between performance and price which sits nicely between the canon f1.8 and f1.2.
I bought this as a trial but needed have worried, it's quickly become my go to lens for studio work, it's much lighter than the Canon, love it.
And the Canon? Weeellllllllll...... Maybe
I am so pleased that I chose this over the canon 85mm F1.2. I even considered buying a usedF1.2 one, but still thought it to extremely expensive for an occasional use lens. Further more after purchasing the sigma 1.4 I saw in Jessops/Birmingham a canon 85mm f1.2 and thought it to be very large and heavy. Sure it will get you noticed, but I like to spend my money wisely.
I am in no doubt that I made the right choice.
The Sigma is fast, sharp at 1.4 and silent smooth on the focus department.
The build quality is good. Highly recommended.
There are many reviews on other sites to confirm it.
Other than some concerns that there may be some autofocus issues with some lens it got very good reviews. People tended to still rate the Canon 1.2 a little higher but at twice the price.
After 2 days of use I can say it is very high performing lens.
I though I was having front focusing issues but it would seem after some testing that is was just me moving within the very shallow depth of field the 1.4 creates. The bokeh is superb and the image quality and sharpness at 100% is really excellent. It produces the usual chromatic aberation at large apertures but these are easily minimised in software. There is some vignetting at wide apertures too but this actually adds interest to portrait shots. This can also be minised post processing. The focus was accurate and quiet. The build of the lens feels more plastic than a Canon L series but then again plastic is a durable material also.
So absolutely no regrets after 48 hours with the Sigma 85mm 1.4 and as I get to know this lens I will probably love it even more. I can't wait to see what else Sigma comes up with.

Built quality is much better than Nikkor 70 200 2.8 VR II which I had.
Half the price comparing to Nikkor 85 1.4G.Read more
