Sigma 18-250mm f/3.5-6.3 DC OS (Stabilised) - Canon Fit Lens
This high zoom ratio lens is designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras and incorporates Sigma’s original OS (Optical Stabiliser) technology. This system offers the use of shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower. Pentax and Sony mount lenses are also equipped with the OS function as it is possible to use this with camera bodies which already incorporate a built-in anti-shake system. Four SLD (Special Low Dispersion) glass elements and three aspherical lenses provide excellent correction for all types of aberrations. High image quality is assured throughout the entire zoom range. The HSM (Hyper Sonic Motor) ensures fast and quiet auto-focusing. This lens has a minimum focusing distance of 45cm (17.7in) and a maximum magnification ratio of 1:3.4, making it convenient for close-up photography.See all Product description

The only negatives i have are it does render the stock flash on my Canon EOS 550D useless at close range macro lengths as it introduces shadows on the image through being so big...that's not what its for though so I forgive it....and also its heavy - but also I think that's because its built properly!
Great lens and has become my lens of choice, it replaces two mediocre kit lenses with aplomb and the only time it comes off is for low light or if I really want the extra quality of the fixed 50mm.
Ideal for travelling and my only issue was that just after buying this they brought out one with a better macro facility which I would have liked
I have always known Sigma to be considered as good quality optics and I have not been disappointed with this. It give good quality images and that good range of zoom. I would and indeed have recommended this to other people, with my other brother also purchasing one recently.
Initially I was hesitant in buying Sigma (as I had bought a Sigma 28-300mm lens a few yrs ago, but could not get it to focus), but after buying a Sigma 150-500mm lens 2yrs ago, and was impressed by the image quality so much that I decided to try Sigma again for my everyday lens.
At first I wasn't too happy (when using it with the 7D), until I did a lot of testing at different focus ranges - the fine tuning of the autofocus on the 7D is needed before this lens will autofocus properly, now, I must say, focus, and image quality is as good, and slightly better than the Canon 18-200mm.
With the 600D, the autofocus is basically fine (although you can get slightly sharper results using the live view).
I have very happy with the lens, and definitely would recommend it as an everyday lens :D
