Oh my word, I loved this book. I hadn’t previously read any of Peter Sutton’s work, but I will very soon be reading everything he has written and will wait with increasing impatience for anything else he produces. Rarely does a work of modern fiction have me hooked as this one did. I found that I had to set myself a strict daily number of minutes of reading, otherwise I would have done nothing else.
I have no intension of giving any plot away; you should read it for yourself. But if you like intrigue with a touch of the paranormal, a very well developed plot and a burning desire to find out what happens next Sick City Syndrome is for you.
The book made me think. It made me challenge what I have always accepted as truth. And it made me explore ideas I had never before considered. Any book that can do those things has pride of place on my already overburdened book shelves.
I won't look at abandoned buildings the same way ever again!

I came to the book in a round-about way, following a link from Abra Staffin-Wiebe's newsletter to her contribution to the story, a letter to an advice columnist expressing concern that the writer's grandmother didn't believe in ghosts. That was enough to get me reading the "look inside" sample chapter, and by then I was hooked. Read that first (free) chapter at your peril; you may not be able to put it down either.
It's not quite Lewis Carroll or Douglas Adams; maybe more Franz Kafka: reality with a half-twist.
