Product Description

Product Description

With this fourth volume, Finnish conductor Pietari Inkinen completes his cycle of Sibeliuss numbered symphonies, of which the Symphonies Nos. 1 and 3 (8.572305) were acclaimed as warm and poignant (Classical Music Sentinel), Symphonies Nos. 4 and 5 (8.572227) as having raw intensity (Guardian) and Symphony No. 2 (8.572704) as entrancing highly recommended ( The tranquil and sunny poetry of Symphony No. 6 joins the majestic single-movement Symphony No. 7, coupled with Finlandia, the work which established Sibeliuss fame and became a symbol of Finnish freedom.

With each disc at budget price, you can hardly go wrong with this Siblelius cycle-it's both the perfect introduction and a worthy addition for collectors.Bravo Naxos! **** --Classic fm Magazine,Nov'11

This is a really dramatic and moving performance. --IRR,Oct'11

Inkenen captures the Seventh s almost tidal surge convincingly, from the opening quasi-religious polyphony through the livelier following sections, with their increasingly dancing melodies, to the radiant finale. Performance **** Recording **** --BBC Music Magazine,Jan'12

Format: Audio CD
Naxos' new Sibelius symphonies edition is good series - Pietari Inkinen and New Zealand Symphony Orchestra makes good work (Symphonies nos. 4 and 5). But this (the last cd of the new Sibelius series) is the worst recording of Sibelius' last symphonies. The Seventh Symphony is very poor for this cd. The trombone solo is quiet and orchestra plays evenly and stench. This cd is very poor and boring. Don't buy this cd!
