I bought this a first Kindle book and to satisfy my curiosity in live-aboard boating on canals. It is a cheerily written tome of very little depth which in my view missed the point entirely - a collection of magazine type submissions with no real information. Pleasant but not what I was after.

I enjoyed Ian's words, but then I am half way to his and Mrs B's lifestyle. Much of what was written resonated with me so this book was more a reaffirmation of what I knew was all that is good about living afloat.

Ian Birks has been cruising the canals for a long time, and for some years wrote a column about his experiences, first in Canal Boat magazine and then in Canals and Rivers. If you enjoyed those columns, this book is a chance to revisit them. If you didn't, and you find Steve Haywood's not dissimilar ponderings too caustic for your taste, you might well want to take a look here.

Unlike many other books about living aboard on the waterways of England, Ian doesn't bombard us with advice. Instead, he treats us to some mellow musings about his lifestyle.

Best read with a well aged claret, I can heartily recommend this book.

I read this book in two reading sessions; first because I couldn't easily put it down, second because it is very well written and third because sadly it's too short! And that is my only criticism!

Yes, a pleasant read, which could easily be repeated - I have already done this twice (read it, that is).

This could have been longer, but, as they say, best to finish wanting more.

Nicely written and at times amusing. I would have given more stars if the author had included a more detailed paragraph on the cost of living full time on the canal as a constant cruiser. Still a good read worthy of a few quid of anybody's hard earned cash.

An amusing little book about life on the waterways, living on a narrowboat and cruising the canals. If you want a short easy going read then don't hesitate, dip into this book and while away a couple of hours

Good, easy, light hearted reading whether your new to narrow boats, just fascinated by them or old hand. Should leave you looking forward to the next book in the series.
