I was recuperating from an op to my broken left wrist when I need something to draw me away from the rigour of daytime telly. I'm a very proud Salopian. So yes, I would buy a lot of things connected to my home town (from Brother Cadfeal through to Charles Darwin), but you don't have to be a Salopian or lover of Shrewsbury to like this book.

The story is charming. The characters real, and the plot comes to a crescendo with the titled meeting at the station 'just after six'.

Phil's prowse and writing skills bring to life wonderful characters, in a believable story that had this reviewer glued to every word from cover to cover.

The backdrop of Shrewsbury to the story adds to it's charm, and for anyone wanting to know why our town is so special to us Salopians you could do a lot worse than read this book.

As the sleeve notes say 'finding happiness is not always as easy as it seems'. Well Phil, this book brought me a lot of happiness. Roll on 'Shrewsbury Station - Just Before Six' !

I read a review of this book in the local paper. I do not live in Shrewsbury but do live in Shropshire. I could not really relate to the characters and could not get into the story at first. I enjoyed the ending and as it was short I managed to get through it.

A neat and enjoyable fable about the ups and down of relationships and family life, set in Shrewsbury, which the author evidently knows like the back of his hand. The tone is easy-going but the story nonetheless reminds us of certain fundamental pearls of wisdom, even if it wears its learning lightly. As the title suggests, the town's railways station has an important role to play - a location where I too have waited a very long time for various trains on many occasions . . .

What a dreadful book. A really silly story with even sillier characters. How did it ever get published? I purchased it on Kindle because I am a Shrewsbury girl and interested in everything to do with my home town. Please, no more of this kind of rubbish.
