title says it all really a truly great live album to rival exit stage left ( 5 stars too)

recounts Rush in one of their more creative phases

wall to wall top class prog with a hint of AOR / pop thrown in

my favourites - Mission - manhatten project - distant early warning - force ten - time stand still

etc etc

Ok so I am not the biggest Rush fan out there but I know great music when I hear it, and this is one of the best Live albums I have heard from a technically superior band to most.

I originally bought this with a certain amount of trepidation,i'd felt the three previous albums had been not as exciting as Moving Pictures/Signals and that it was recorded on the tour supporting my least favourite Rush album(at the time) really caused concern,I shouldnt have worried, its damn near flawless.

Essentially a best of the the mid 80's era ,this combines most of the best tracks, whilst a couple notably those from HOLD YOUR FIRE have improved in the live arena,Alex Lifeson on fire, more evident than on album.

From the moment the disc finishes you just want to put it on again.Highpoints the opener 'Big Money','Subdivisions',Time Stand Still' & 'Closer To The Heart'.

The DVD is even better with some archive tracks such as Temples of Syrinx/La Villa.. plus live favs 'Spirit Of Radio' & 'Tom Sawyer'

I am a bit biased as I love live albums even bad ones
but this one is an excellent show case of Rush's 80's material as that is what it mostly contains which seems (from my research) to be a period of semi turmoily discontent among Rush fans, However Rush play these songs loud and proud and rightly so, they are wonderful songs and they sound great with the energy of a live show, my favourite is the ever present drum solo
Red Sector A and Big Money is pretty cool too the opening song after the intro.

Excellent performance from all three members of the band

This is my third copy of this album. This shows Rush at their brilliant best. It was the album that returned me to the fold. Every song sounds fresh and brilliantly played. It brings back so many good memories.

A brilliant live album.and a great presence in the theatre. I cannot agree with critics of the keyboards element which gives an added and enhanced dimension to the performance. I have still got the original vinyl but am on third copy of the cd as I have damaged two beyond playing through accidental scratching due to excessive use. Critics of Rush should be aware that they have always been an evolutionary band developing new styles. If you only buy one Rush recording, buy this one.
