Gordon Kerr is a writer and editor who has worked in bookselling, publishing, journalism and the wine trade. He is the author of several titles including A Short History of Europe and A Short History of Africa, both published by Pocket Essentials
I have given this book 4 stars for a number of reasons. The conclusions drawn and the history itself are very impressive and it is both enlightening and enjoyable to read. However, it's one drawback is that on occasion it does feel rushed as the author does not take the time to go into the greatest amount of detail. That said considering the subject matter and the span of time the book covers I'm not sure this could be done without a multi volume series of at least three books. Overall I did find it a rather lovely read and it has at least provoked discussion (argument would only just be too strong) amongst myself and my friends. All in all, my hat off to Mr Kerr.
