About the Author

Victoria Alexander was an award-winning television reporter until she discovered fiction was much more fun than real life. She turned to writing full time and has never looked back. Victoria grew up traveling the country as an Air Force brat and is now settled in Omaha, Nebraska, with her husband, two teenaged children, and a bearded collie named Sam. She firmly believes housework is a four-letter word, there are no calories in anything eaten standing up, procrastination is an art form, and it's never too soon to panic.

HASH(0x93d8ee58) out of 5 stars Highly Entertaining 6 Nov. 2014
By Melody May - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I have always found Victoria Alexander's books entertaining and The Shocking Secret of a Guest at the Wedding is no exception. This fun story is filled mayhem. I know that is probably a wrong word to use, but it's a good way to describe the chaos that happens to Jack's life. Cause you have Jack who basically had his whole life planned out. He had a future career at the bank his grandfather is part of, a future with the girl he has known his whole life, and then to have it all uprooted cause he found out the father he thought was dead was perfectly alive. That could cause mayhem. If that didn't throw a wrench in his life, the possibility of being a future earl might. Poor Jack doesn't know which path he should go and he has two choice: 1) Become the banker he was raised to be or 2) Become an earl eventually and head of a family he didn't know he had. Yeah, I don't know how I would have handled Jack's situation.

Then we have Teddy. Ever since Teddy's father died, Teddy and her mother have been striving to survive by being party planners. Which is fine and dandy, but they have to keep somewhat secretive in a way. Here's why, if society found out that they were on hard times, society would turn their noses on them, which would make it harder for them to survive. Now Teddy's mother has been trying to get Teddy to marry her cousin Simon, so they can get back to their home. However, Teddy isn't to keen on this plan, because she just doesn't want to be with Simon. Gotta love a persistent mother. Anyway, she has no desire to marry, but pursue her career. Very modern of her.

I have to the realization that I enjoy Victoria Alexander's books. They are always entertaining, and sometimes a bit off the wall. I think thats what makes her stories so much fun. Yes, The Shocking Secret of a Guest at the Wedding have elements that make it know you are reading an Victoria Alexander book. You have two unlikely people that are drawn together. As I said that Jack's life was turned upside down and you have Teddy who has been surviving. What you are going to find is people coming back from the dead, fake engagements, and things that will definitely lead to scandal. If that wasn't enough you have Channing family charging forward like it's nothing they haven't seen before.

Honestly, I found this story highly entertaining and somehow they are able to manage the chaos that surrounds them. I love Jack cause his character goes through such a transformation because he starts out stodgy and changes to something he could see himself. Teddy also goes through some growth, and she has to cause she's a tad bit stubborn for her own. You can't forget the family and their tendency to be busy-bodies. Truly The Shocking Secret of a Guest at the Wedding is a lot of fun to read. I would recommend this to someone who is looking for something light and a little out there plot.

HASH(0x93d8eeac) out of 5 stars I have enjoyed many of Victoria Alexander's books 4 Jan. 2015
By Love to Read - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
I have enjoyed many of Victoria Alexander's books. This one not so much. It was kind of boring. The characters are likeable and the banter is witty, but the story feels like it drags. Usually when I love a book I cant put it down. This book took me two weeks to read and I had to remind myself to finish it. The story line just felt flat. No big highs or lows. Just plodded along at a slow steady sedate pace like an old mare. The only part of the book that was disappointing was when the heroine refused to marry the hero towards the end of the book after he literally put his heart and soul into his public proposal. It made no sense at all that she refused him in front of their friends and family after considering how much she claimed to love him. Then she spent months trying to track him down to tell him she had made a mistake and did want him after all. She's darn lucky he took her back.

HASH(0x925506e4) out of 5 stars LOVED it! 8 Nov. 2014

This is book 4 in the Milworth Manor series.

Lady Theodosia "Teddy" Winslow is intrigued by the stranger she meets at her latest job as a party planner. That is until she finds out the he has lied, through omission, about who he is.

Jackson Quincy Graham Channing is just as intrigued with Teddy and won't let a little thing like who he is related to get in the way of his attraction for her. As he tries to figure out if he wants to accept his father's legacy and stay in Europe, Jackson uses the time to get to know Teddy a little better.

When Teddy is put into an unwanted position, Jackson steps up and says he is her fiance. Knowing that it helps both of them, they agree to continue with the shame betrothal. What happens when one of them decides they want the betrothal to be real?

As with the rest of the books in this series, I absolutely loved this story. Alexander has a way with dialogue that just keeps me riveted up until the very end. The witty back and forth between the H/H in each of her novels is what keeps bringing me back time and again.

Alexander's story line for this book was a nice change of pace. A well born man having no idea that he is in line for a title let alone that his father is alive. You also have the added element of a lady of the peerage actually working. These elements plus many more made this a very refreshing read.

We meet Jackson's best friend Lucy Merryweather in this story and I'm so happy to hear that her story is next in the series. Her hero is the story is Cameron Effington, so I'm hoping to see more of my favorites from Alexander's Effington series.

Thanks go out to Kensington Books via NetGalley for a copy of the book in exchange of an honest review.

HASH(0x93a72150) out of 5 stars Good and bad parts 5 Nov. 2014
By T. Murrell - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Jack is given the shock of his life when he walks into a room and finds a man claiming to be his father, a father that he had thought dead for his entire 30 years of life. His mother had conveniently chosen to keep his father a secret his entire life. So the staid banker goes completely against character and makes the impulsive decision to go with his newly found father to England. Having grown up in America his entire life, Jack is completely confused by everything English. When he meets a young woman named Teddy, he enlists her help to tell him about his father's country. Both are keeping secrets, and both have plans that might come in the way of romance.

Despite the rather cheesy cover, I was looking forward to this book. The plot is fun. Who wouldn't love to find out they are in line for a title? The two main characters were a mixed bag for me. Jack had depth and a sense of humor. Teddy was annoying and made horrible decisions, tons of them. The secondary characters helped redeem this a little bit. The dialogue between the two main characters was very lengthy and detailed. I felt the author was trying to tell the majority of the story through the dialogue. And the ending was frustrating. But overall, looking back, it was a fun story and I'll try another book by this author since I did enjoy the plot so much.

I received this book free of charge from Goodreads in exchange for my honest review.

HASH(0x93a72390) out of 5 stars a true gem of a book 12 Nov. 2014
By Shauni - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition
Originally reviewed for Bodice Rippers, Femme Fatales and Fantasy.

In book four of her Millworth Manor Series, author Victoria Alexander once again delivers a story of passion and play, slight of hand and proper promises.

It's the Victorian Era and the world is changing. Americans are coming into power, it only takes a moment to cross the Atlantic and there are those who are funding automobiles.. *gasp* can you imagine? But some things remain ever the same and the British Upper Ten Thousand have rules of engagement.

Lady Theodosia "Teddy" Winslow has a party planning business.. you know as a "hobby" *wink wink*. She and her mother just do it for fun... That's what the world knows what Teddy knows is her alleged fiancé managed to manipulate her father into entering some risky business activities that also turned out to be highly illegal. Once he managed to drain the family dry, he fled, dying in a shipwreck leaving the Winslow family holding the bag. Dad being a weak man did what only a weak man can do, he committed suicide leaving Teddy and her mother alone and without funds. But Teddy was strong and had some excellent friends and they survived. Only now it seems that Teddy's dreams have gone from her girlish desires of having a family of her own to being a woman of business. So why is she so attracted to her best friend's long lost cousin?

Jackson Quincy Graham Channing gave up his childhood dreams of adventure and became the epitome of a staid New York Banker. Youngest Vice President in the bank.. the family bank.. but still. Jackson was raised by his widowed mother and his grandfather and had a boring but nice life. Until his father shows up.. the father he thought was dead. And it gets better the father who didn't know he existed. Oh yeah, the father who is his brother's heir to a title. So that means Jackson is too. His entire world is turned upside down and he has no clue just who he is. Some time spent with his long lost father and an introduction to the family is planned but as soon as Jackson spies the gorgeous Teddy, family matters take a back step.

Of course there is so much more going on than just two people meeting at a wedding. Teddy is trying to run a successful wedding AND make sure the reason why remains hidden. I mean after all if anyone knew that they needed the money, no one would hire them *rolls eyes*. There are also some things from her past that have popped up and Teddy must learn how to trust again. Love is easy, trust on the other hand...

Convoluted? Sure... but what a fun book! Victoria Alexander has this gift. This way of tilting the chessboard and making everyone thinks it's supposed to be that way. I am totally enjoying this series and love the twists and plots Ms. Alexander continues to come up with.

A true gem of a book.
