At the heart of this novel is an intriguing mystery. Why has Robert been lying to his wife for so long? What happened deep in the past to disrupt a happy childhood? And above all, who on earth is Shmoo? What is he up to, and whose side is he on?
This is a real page-turner – the reader is desperate to unravel all the layers of the mystery; but along the way, there is much to enjoy, in particular Reeby’s treatment of childhood and her understanding of how children feel and behave as they grow older.

An excellent book and one which I thoroughly enjoyed reading from cover to cover.
The characters are well defined and likeable, especially Daniel, Boddy and his mum. Reeby has really captured the characters of these two as boys which made me smile and think of my own children.
The story line develops as you progress through the book with an interesting twist at the end in which all becomes clear. The flash backs between the past and now are well structured and thought out and add an original and interesting slant to the story.
Thoroughly enjoyable.

A heartfelt tale of a man who's never quite grown up and his imaginary friend, Shmoo. But why is Robert still talking to an imaginary friend? And what happened in his past that he needs to hide from his perfect young family? This novel is expertly crafted and the interweaving stories create a mystery that keeps you hooked until the final pages. I found myself rooting for the characters and invested in their lives, keeping my fingers crossed that everything would turn out all right in the end.

I really enjoyed Schmoo - it's a great page-turner of a book and I still want to know what happened after the final word on the final page. The characters were well drawn and credible with life stories that the reader can relate to - the main protagonist makes some decisions that help him survive but they have a later impact on his loved ones that he could not have foreseen. Well worth your time and I'm looking forward to whatever this author does next.

For me a good book is one you don't want to put down, and this was such a book. The story carries you along wanting to know more about the family past and present, and the twist towards the end catches you unaware. I look forward to reading the sequel, I hope there is going to be one.
