Product Description

My Ship Is Coming In is an essential 2CD collection of the hits of the Walker Brothers from the '60s and '70s. Featuring the instantly recognisable baritone of Scott Walker, hits such as "Make It Easy In Yourself", "The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore" and "My Ship is Coming In" gave the trio a teenage fanbase in the late '60s to rival the Beatles in size. A reformation in the late '70s brought further timeless singles, including "No Regrets".

There are several hundred Walker Brothers compilations out there, so why choose this one? Simply the price. 36 songs for less than a fiver - whether you buy the CDs or the mp3s - is difficult to beat. All the big hits are there "Make it Easy on Yourself", "Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore", as are all the songs that hint at the darker side that Scott was to explore in his solo career: "Orpheus", "Mrs Murphy" and "Archangel". It doesn't cover the reformation in the 1970s, so there is no "No Regrets" or anything from the "Nite Flights" LP, but that's a minor quibble. If you are new to the world of the Walker Brothers and want a low risk introduction, or if you need to replace your scratched and worn out vinyl copies, this is definitely the compilation to go for.

I already have most of these tracks, but on vinyl (I'm old and they're the originals). Waited a long time to get a CD like this and being a tight-wad, four and a half quid is just the kind of price I don't mind paying. Many of the tracks don't usually appear on CD as they weren't actual hits but people that know the Walker Brothers will remember these songs. It's nice to hear them without the clicks and scratches I've been used to. Highly recommended to anyone that likes this type of music.

Great ...Scott to me had one of the best Voices .of all time..and all the well Known songs are on this cd I have the 45 singles but I love it to now have them on a cd ..it was a sad that the type of material that Scott recorded when going Solo did nothing to the Great Voice he had ....as a singer I often sing some of their songs .

Definitely the best Walker Brothers compilation available, if only for the number of tracks on it. Fortunately, the quality of the songs and the performances are also as good as you could wish, so it's almost perfect.

Almost...with one strange exception. The version of "Sun ain't gonna shine" is not what you'd want or expect; the lead vocal is so far back in the mix that it's almost buried under the orchestral backing. It sounds like Scott Walker was in another building when it was being recorded, you can hardly hear him. It's definitely not what it should be, but it's the only track on the double CD which suffers from the problem - on every other song, the production and mixing is perfect. Technically, someone seems to have a dropped a clanger when "Sun ain't gonna shine" was mastered for this release.

So their best song (for me) is spoiled by a very poor balance of voice/orchestra. It's annoying, but you can learn to live with it. This is a great compilation - but you'll want to buy something else for a decent version of "Sun ain't gonna shine".
