Tells the history of sherry, stretching from Chaucer's wine of Lepe, through Shakespeare's sherris-sack, to the sherry of today. From the planting of the vines in the South of Andalusia, through the stages of fermentation, ageing, and blending, this is a complete account of sherry growing.

This book is written with a great deal of love and understanding of sherry and the people who made the trade in it so successful. It is a fascinating insight into how the popularity of sherry developed, and how the winemakers have coped with change and development. The fifth edition is as fresh as the first, written after the author's stay in Jerez in 1956.
