I have been a reader of Sherlock Holmes stories for many years and I have to say I am always slightly dubious when it comes to 'new Sherlock Holmes adventures', but I did rather enjoy this story. It's always nice to read some 'new Holmes' stories that add another aspect of a character we think we know so well, even if it's non-cannon. There are some rather nice touches regarding 'the Holmes brothers' and a mysterious event regarding their mother. I say no more, I suggest you read it to find out 'The Mystery of the Last Line'.

I thoroughly enjoyed this and couldn't put it down. Only disappointment was it could have been a little longer. It was a good theme to show Holmes trying to come off the drugs and, with the assistance of Watson, and Mrs Hudson travelling up to Holmes' old home in Yorkshire added an interesting touch of a story based on aspects of Holmes earlier life. This is something I think Conan Doyle never did. I hope there will be more from this author.

I never got a chance to see the Sherlock Holmes movies released over the past few years, so to kick them all off, I've been reading all the books related to Sherlock Holmes to build anticipation and I found this book in particular... Amazing... I am really excited about it and now as a result, have three of my mates reading it right now, just to talk about it. It's atmospheric, it builds up well to a climatic conclusion and all in all the character of Holmes is well dimensioned...

Why have I not read these before? Five out of five!

In this short story, Holmes and Watson, with Mrs Hudson in tow, leave the capital following the death of Sherlock's brother Mycroft, to visit the family estate, where various dark secrets of the Holmes family emerge. I didn't think this was a good story. While the backdrop sounds suitably dramatic, it is not well written, and the dialogue didn't really feel true to the characters (though it was by no means the worst pastiche I have read in that respect). What Mycroft is supposed to have done in this story are inconsistent with his persona in the Doyle canon.

This book is a quick and rewarding read. I nearly always enjoy new installments from Baker Street, and this was no different.

I like this author's take on the characters, it adds a little extra spice into the story. I would recommend this to anyone who has a soft spot for Homles, or is infact new to the series.

well written and enjoyable to read

There are lots of post Doyle, Sherlock Holmes stories around. Some good, some not so. This one, for me, is in the latter category. I don't think the author had really got the characters of Holmes and Watson true to the originals although he does a better job with Watson than Holmes. Not a good read in my opinion.

Although the book is short, I found it to be quite entertaining. With TV series like 'Elementary' and successful movies of Sherlock Holmes in the theatres, the stories of this famous detective in it various incarnations have been great. And this book is no exception. The author keeps true to the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle style, but the story has more zest and excitement.

If you are looking for a good little traditional crime mystery book, you will enjoy this one.

I have always been a fan of Sherlock Holmes and I always look forward to reading new material done in the same style.
Most of the time I'm disappointed but this story was a real joy to read.
A riveting story line and characters in line with the original. Great Stuff.
